  1. I use Analysis Plus Black Oval 9 and have been very with it, improved the bass but not over emphasised. My previous stop gap cables were lacking in this area. In the past I have used Chord Epic, Chord Signature, JPS Labs SC-3 which were my favourite, unfortunately I had to sell these as they were too short after a system change and I couldn't justify the price again.
  2. All sorted now with a flick of the ground switch on the amp.
  3. Please help! I've been using an Antelope Zodiac Gold DAC directly into a Plinius SA-103 power amp using RCA interconnects. I have just received a pair of Analysis Plus XLR interconnects and tried to connect them tonight. Once connected and after selecting the XLR Stereo option from the dial on the back of the Plinius I get a very loud hum from the speakers, I immediately muted it using the button on the front of the Plinius. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone please help me?
  4. I use the Antelope Audio Zodiac Gold with the Voltikus power supply and I'm extremely happy with it. For the first few hundred hours of use I used it through the preamp then experimented with it direct and bypassed the preamp, I feel I get a purer sound. There is also a set of analogue inputs on this DAC so it can also function as a preamp. It's also supplied with a nice metal remote for volume and source selection and since my amp doesn't have a volume control thus was a welcomed addition!
  5. I am also interested in this and have been frequently searching the net to find reviews, has anyone got one of these yet? Any opinions on this model? Thanks.
  6. Hi Steve, I bought a new mac mini about 3 months ago too. I have ripped 735 albums since buying it using the internal drive. I used XLD to rip them. I had a few issues where CDs wouldn't open, I'd just eject it and try again, tgen it would read ok. On the whole it worked fine. I thought about an external drive but decided against it. I hope this helps and good luck with the ripping! (used iPhone to post and it posted twice, can't see an option to remove, sorry!)
  7. This was my first foray into computer audio and I'm very pleased so far. I also use the iPhone remote app which is excellent. I've just added a little Arcam rDAC for now, I plan on getting something better over the next few months, so far I'm loving the whole setup!

  9. Thanks for the information Airdronian. I'm not looking forward to copying all my CDs and definitely only want to do it once! I ordered a Mac Mini on Friday (2.4GHz, 320gb HD, 4gb RAM) along with a G-Technology 1tb external HD which I'll use as the main drive and I bought a WD Essentials 1tb for back up, I hope this will be sufficient. I now need to think about a DAC, I think I'll buy a budget one until I can afford something a little better. I'm thinking that the Arcam rDAC will suffice for now. I plan on buying either the Ayre QB-9 or Weiss DAC2 or something similar in that price range. I use a Luxman L-509u integrated amp so I'm not fussed about a DAC with volume control or a headphone output.
  10. Thanks to everyone who has posted a reply, I think a NAS / RAID set up might be excessive for my needs at present. I will start with 2 separate 1tb drives for now until I familiarise myself with this new venture (1 for everyday use and another for backup). The Iomega 1TB MiniMax looks appealing, I will look into the others suggested. This is a very useful forum, I would be completely lost without it, I am so grateful for its existence! I just wouldn't have considered some of the issues which have been highlighted so far, so thank you to those that have posted.
  11. Hello all, I really need help selecting an external storage device, I am very new to all this so any advice would be appreciated. I've just sold my CD player and plan to buy a Mac Mini, storage device (s) and later on add a DAC. I want to rip my entire CD collection and hope to start doing this by the weekend. I'll buy the Mac tomorrow and need assistance selecting an external storage device. I have found this forum very informative and without it's existence I wouldn't have even considered pursuing this route! I know these questions have been asked before in one form or another, however I'm very new to all this so some expert advice is required. I have looked at the following options and would like opinions on these products. (If there's a better solution please suggest a particular model or product) WD My Book Studio Edition II 2tb G-technology G-raid 2tb I would consider one of the above options in conjunction with an additional 1tb desk top storage device. Or possibly a NAS device if it's not too expensive. I'm open to suggestions from anyone that can help. I don't have a lot of experience with computers, however I think I'll be capable of setting this up. Many thanks!
