  1. Hi, You can download a patch for foo_remote that allows it to work with the latest Remote app. The site is www.wintense.com (the developer). I'm using the patched version currently and the only problem is that it doesn't navigate the artists correctly -- any artist with only one album goes to a full list of songs in the library when selected. Albums, genres, search, etc.. all work fine. I believe the developer is also rewriting the app from scratch for the future. Jason
  2. After a quick service on my Audiophilleo2 (the connector was broken), it came back with 1.08 installed and my results mirror yours. No pops or clicks with either ASIO or WASAPI on Win 7, no problems on the Mac. Overall 1.08 seems much more stable and is a must install if you are evaluating the Audiophilleo. The reports here of different USB cables improving the sound are interesting. I know Philip claims they shouldn't and with the few I've tried I haven't noticed anything. I don't have anything really special though. I'm thinking of trying out the Cardas Clear USB, has anyone heard it with an async interface? jason
  3. Barrows, Did you try the Audiophilleo2 with anything other than Pure Music? I ask because I had the same experience with PM 1.65a, although I might characterize it differently. The midrange seemed pitched up, fullness was lacking and overall the sound just wasn't right. I had much better success with Ayrewave in exlusive mode and also through a Win 7 machine with Foobar in memory mode using ASIO. Both of those sounded pretty much the same, rich, full and detailed. I don't know if the sound equaled the Bel Canto's SPDIF output as I don't have one (I have heard that it is great), but I do know that out of 3 programs, 2 were sounding basically the same and sounding good to me while PM was not. I only have the Audiophilleo2 on hand and haven't tried PM with anything else, so I don't want to generalize about the sound of PM. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Wavelink as I'm considering taking a look at that one too. Thanks, Jason
  4. Just thought I'd pass along this info: The sony classical site www.ariama.com now has lots of albums available for download in FLAC format. They aren't hi-rez, but the format is convenient and most of the albums seem to run from $7.99 to $11.99. Jason
  5. For foobar you need to do 2 things to use a plugin. First install and configure the plugin (wasapi or asio) both are on the foobar2000 site in the components directory. After they are installed and configured you need to go to the output tab in preferences and select which one foobar should use. There will be a drop-down list with each output plugin/sound device combination. To use ASIO you will need to select the ASIO4All option from this list. Once a file starts playing you can click the ASIO4ALL control panel (in the taskbar) and configure it. Note, the output plugin out_asio and ASIO4ALL are two different things and both need to be installed. When configured correctly and properly selected for output neither WASAPI or ASIO should react to volume changes. Finally, if you decide to use Apple's remote app with foobar, you will need to use the older one. Today's update no longer works with the foo_touchremote plugin, at least it doesn't for me. foo_touchremote is being rewritten, but who knows when that will be finished. You can find details about foo_touchremote at http://www.wintense.com. Jason
  6. To get bit transparency in foobar you can install either the asio plugin (and target asio4all) or the wasapi plugin. Both are available from the components page at the foobar2000.org site, along with a lot of other stuff to make foobar more useful. Once the plugins are installed you will see them as options under preferences->playback->output. Wasapi is pretty sensitive to the buffer used (with USB anyway). I've had good luck with 750ms. Asio works pretty well. In either case, if you are using USB, then going into the advanced tab under preferences and increasing the memory buffer (default is 0kb) to something large enough to guarantee that a full song is buffered really helps avoid playback issues and sounds better as well. Jason
  7. If you want to stick with JRMC you can use something like plugplayer or tagnplay to control JRMC as a upnp renderer. This works well enough using a 3rd party server like Asset UPNP but you won't have gapless playback. I haven't been able to get either one working successfully with JRMC's own UPNP server due to a bug with uncompressed streams. Alternatively you could use the rivermote program from Melloware but it is limited to playlists (no library browsing) and would be resolution doubled on the iPad. If you are willing to use foobar, then you could install the foo_touch plugin which is a DACP server and use either apple's Remote application just as you would with iTunes or yTrack (a 3rd party Remote replacement for the iPad). Apples Remote app would be doubled since it hasn't been updated for the iPad. yTrack is undergoing pretty active development though. I've been using Apple's remote app with foobar from an iPod Touch and it works great. Jason
  8. Alan, Where did you learn about the DAC chip in the Cantata? The Cantata user manual makes it sound like the non-usb inputs will do 24/192. I asked Audio-GD about their non-usb inputs and they claim only 24/96 due to the limitation of the PCM1704UK used in the Ref 7. Wouldn't this indicate that the Cantata and Ref 7 use different DACs? I'm curious as I've been considering trying out one of these. Thanks, Jason
