  1. Hi, thanks for the reply. I've realized that I said I'm using JRMC16 in my initial post, but I should have said JRMC15, so apologize for that. I am using the WASAPI exclusive output method. I have just tried downloading the JRMC17 trial and tested it with that, but I still have the same problem. Also, i'm using the version 1.07 ESI Juli@ driver from here: http://download.esi-audio.com/?w=esi&p=6&g=1&l=en This is the only version which claims compatibility with Win7. Thanks for your help.
  2. Hi. I am using a ESI Juli@ sound card with J River Media Centre 16 in Windows 7 64bit. I can playback 44.1khz tracks fine, but whenever I try to play 24bit/96khz tracks I get the BSOD. I did use to have the exact same setup but on Windows Vista and I did not have this problem at all. Does anyone know what the problem can be? I notice there is a thread on J River's forum with someone with a similar problem, but the J River guys put it down to a driver issue with the Juli@. I am going to contact ESI, but I thought I would check here to see if anyone could help aswell? Thanks, Jon.
  3. Hi, I was wondering what devices people are using to remotely control their J River Media Center HTPCs, and what is considered the best? I am looking for something with a touchscreen which can mimic theatre mode in J River as closely as possible, without lag for large libraries. Are the Ipad, Samsung Galaxy, etc powerful enough for this? Thanks, Jon.
  4. Okay, so I added a Sparkle GEFORCE 9600 GT graphics card to the build and this solved the problem. Beatifully smooth J River in theatre mode with touchscreen :-) And it's still *almost* silent so I am happy.
  5. Hello - yes it's got an Intel quad core Q9550 @ 2.83Ghz and also has a NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX graphics card. It's running Windows Vista 64bit. The music server is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Interestingly though, I just tried it on my old PC from 6 years ago, which has an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processor, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 graphics card, and Windows XP. The screen runs fine on this with no lag! But surely the old PC is less powerful than the music server? Could the operating system be making a difference? The only other thing I can think of is that the laptop and PC both have separate graphics cards, whilst the music server does not. Thanks.
  6. Hi there, I recently bought an SX2210T touchscreen to use with my music server. I want to use it with J River Media Centre in theatre mode. However, as soon as I run the screen's "Touch Screen Tools" the computer immediately starts to lag (even with no programs running!). Here are the main specs of my music server: Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H AMD 780G Micro-ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ 3.20GHz (Socket AM2) Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX6400D2K2/4G) Scythe Mini Ninja CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775) Anyone else out there have experience with this screen? Do you think adding a decent graphics card to the build will solve the problem, or is it just never going to be powerful enough for it? P.S. I've tried it on my more powerful laptop and there's no lag, so I guess my backup plan will be to use my laptop + touchscreen for the music server and then use the old server for my desktop. Thanks for your help! Jon.
  7. Oh no, what a stupid mistake to make! I'm new to all these different connection types and didn't check it out properly. Don't spose you wanna buy a Hi-Face do you Eloise? Lol nah, it doesn't matter too much. I got it cheaply second hand so can sell it again and make the money back easily enough. So I change my original question: what cables AND interface do you guys recommend to go with the ADM9.1? :-) Many thanks, Jon.
  8. Hi, i'm in the process of putting together by first music server and am interested in people's advice for optical cables. I've decided to take the advice of members here and go for the M2Tech Hi-Face and AVI ADM9.1 speakers (although i've only bought the Hi-Face up to now) so what would be suitable cables? How much difference do the more expensive ones really make to the sound quality? Many thanks! Jon.
  9. Thanks for the responses :-) Seems like a pretty unanimous vote for the ADM9.1s. I don't think I've ever spent more than £60 on speakers before lol. I trust they're gonna blow me away? ;-) Does the actual computer itself not matter too much? Things like RAM and such? Cheers, Jon.
  10. Hi there, i'm new to the site (and to audiophilia in general) and am looking for advice on building my first 'real' music server :-) At the moment I'm running an Acer Revo 3100 connected via the headphone port to the AUX input of an old Technics SU-Z1 amplifier which then goes to some Acoustic Energy Aegis One speakers. After making do exclusively with my laptop speakers whilst at uni this sounds great, but really I bought the Revo to use just as a movie server for watching blu-ray rips on my TV, and would like to build a separate music server. First off I have about £1000-£1500 to spend. I read the article here on the site about the C.A.P.S. server and was considering something similar. I know a bit about computers and would be confident enough to build my own, but unfortunately I know very little about audio equipment. These are my main questions (although any other advice would be very much appreciated): 1. I notice the C.A.P.S. has a Lynx sound card. Would I be better off with this, or buying a DAC? If so, which would you recommend within my budget? 2. Would you recommend using an amplifier and speakers, or using active speakers? What is the difference? Also, are my existing amplifier/speakers up to the job? I sort of came upon them by accident, so I don't really know how good they are. I've been used to laptop speakers for over 2 years so anything sounds good to me right now! Some other info which might be important: My music collection is stored in FLAC format. I mainly listen to electronic music (Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Autechre, etc etc) but I do listen to other things too. The music server would be in my bedroom (roughly 4m x 3m) with the speakers in two corners. Thanks in advance!! Jon.
