  1. Thanks, wgscott. I was hoping to avoid wireless (worried about signal interference etc), but if that works well for you, then there's still an excuse for me to buy an MBA. Will that cope with 96 files?
  2. Hello all, Any updates on the MBA as a server? I see Chris has made a mention that it's not ideal to run a separate USB based hard drive at the same time as connecting the other USB to a DAC, but has someone tried this? The MBA would suit me much better than a macmini, because of the screen (plus I can use it as a spare netbook when I'm travelling), so I would really like to know if the sound is somehow compromised by using both USB ports... Thanks. Daryll
  3. Bill, that review just added to my worry about the w4s. If sibilance is going to be a problem, then it will really annoy. I wasn't aware of the upper midrange issue with the ESS. Given that that's where the Focals are supposed to excel, I'm now hesitant. The Tranquility looks interesting, but I'd like more than USB. I look forward to your comparison. Would be interesting to know what's the uber expensive ref DAC you were listening to. Daryll
  4. That was very helpful. A bit concerned about the sparkly top end. I wonder if my Focals may emphasise that a little too much. How's bass extension?
  5. I felt exactly the same as you did when I read the 6 Moons review. It seemed to have been written in an unnecessarily pretentious manner without actually saying anything other than 'the w4s is not as good as the Weiss'. I, too, would like to hear from someone with real experience, and also without any reference as to price. It's not helpful knowing something punches above its class when you're also considering more expensive equipment. I'm in the market for a DAC right now. Listened to the Naim, but that seemed devoid (on my system at least) of low frequencies. I am hopeful that the W4S will do better, especially given its spec. Daryll
  6. Hi everyone, I've been a lurker here for awhile, but I thought I'd register and post on this topic because it has been tremendously helpful. Thanks for highlighting ytrack. I downloaded it yesterday and it works flawlessly with iTunes 10 on my Macbook (present gen). I didn't experience any latency. It was nice to have an iPad alternative to the iphone/touch remote app, and this one is inexpensive and is easy to use. FWIW, my wife likes it loads, which always helps! I'm in the process of planning my move to a computer based front end, having ripped my entire library to the Mac. Next up is getting a DAC. Daryll
