  1. Hmmm- just tried it again and it seems to be working okay. I will email you if I can get it to act up again. Thanks!
  2. Just downloaded Bit Perfect and love the minimalist approach. I noticed however that when switching from 16/44.1 material to 24/96, Audio Midi Setup shows the sampling rate switching automatically from 44.1 to 96 but the bit depth remains at 16. Is this a case of Audio Midi Setup just not showing the actual output, or is Bit Perfect actually downsampling from 24 to 16 bits? reply

  4. Really interesting thread. One thing that always drives me crazy is when people put down the B&O ICE power based stuff and brag about how their implementation is completely custom and doesn't use the ICE modules, like ICE power is a dirty word or something. IMHO the ICE based stuff is the best sounding class-D on the market to date. Fact of the matter is that B&O pioneered the technology and they have had many dozens of engineers working on this stuff around the clock for years. No one else has the resources invested in Class-D the way they do and I would much rather buy a product engineered by 50 people over many years than a product engineered by one guy over the last couple of years... So stop bragging about how your stuff is not ICE!
  5. I am hoping you are right- and you probably are. I think the software they were talking about allows you to stream content from your computer to your TV. If I get a NAS that is DLNA I think the samsung should see it on the network, it just cant see my computer with out this software.
  6. Thanks Radio King- my TV is DLNA so it looks like I might be good to go. The only hitch is that I am a mac user and it seems samsung wants you to download PC only software to set up the DLNA stuff, but we shall see. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
  7. Hey everyone- this if more of a computer geek question than an audio question, but the internet is not turning out any great answers so thought I would give posting here a shot. I just bought a new samsung LCD which allows me to play movies off an external hardrive connected via USB. It works really well, and I love it. Anyway I need to get a new backup system for my mac as my old backup just died, and I want to use a NAS. I would also like to have that NAS connected via USB to my Samusung, so I can play movies that I download to the NAS on the TV using samsungs media play feature. Does anyone know of a NAS that has a USB port that will function just like a USB port on an external USB drive? This is really what I need. I also have a new apple TV- and I'm sure there is a way I could hack that to access the movies on my NAS, but the ATV does that wacky thing where it makes all video look like it was recorded with a camcorder (not to mention that it upsamples audio to 48K), and the Samsung interface is actually awesome and performs rock solid with all kinds of divx and avi files. Even MKV files are no problem. Anyway that is my dilema. Would love to have a NAS that I could use as a time capsule/ media storage/ media server and I know all the technology exists, but I can't seem to find a drive that exists with all the tech actually in it. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the heads up on this Chris! I have been waiting for these recordings to get the remaster treatment. Before I downloaded I was disappointed it was only 16/48 and not higher, but after downloading and listing, these recordings are AWESOME. So much better then the original. Downloaded the ALAC, and have yet to convert to AIFF. Wonder if there will be much of a difference.
  9. I am currently using a Peachtree Audio Music Box with Peachtree DS4.5 speakers in my home office and I absolutely LOVE the setup. This system is simply perfect for the office. Since you already own a Decco, I would just add a pair of DS4.5's and you will be good to go. They are small, compact and were purposely engineered to be near-field devices. Could not be happier with the purchase, and am consistently amazed by the soundstage depth I am getting with these things 3 feet from my ears.
  10. Whoops- totally forgot about the AES/EBU input- that is what is in place of the 2nd Tolsink. My bad. Just for clarity, the DAC1.5 is limited to 24/96 only on its USB input and capable of 24/192 on every other digital input. Anyway- enjoy! It is a great piece.
  11. Hi there- if you are interested in getting 24/192 from your DAC1.5, you need to get a USB to SPDIF converter that supports 192. The Bel Canto Link is limited to 24/96, as is the USB input on the DAC1.5. In my experience however, there is so little music available in 24/192 that I see no reason to invest in a device like that at this time. There is hardly any good music available in 24/96 so it is going to be a while before 24/192 is relavant. BTW- the DAC1.5 has 2 Tos, 2 SPDIF and 1 USB, so even if you have one Tos devise going into the DAC, you will have one free for the mac if you like. I would just stick with the USB though. I have used the DAC3.5VB extensively and love all of the Bel Canto DACs, but I would recommend doing some serious listing tests with Pure Music's upsampling feature on and off. After doing these test myself, I prefer to let the DAC do it's own upsampling and use pure music to play at the native sample rate of the source material. You might also want to try Amarra as that is what I use now and prefer.
  12. Oooh- tweaky- I like it. Will give this a shot and let you know. Thanks!
  13. Yeah dbPower amp works but I was looking for a native mac app (hopefully free). I do have dbPower amp on a windows box- I am just so addicted to my mac it is hard to boot windows up:)
  14. Itunes gives me a message saying that the hi-res content is not in a format that is compatible with my ipod... Also I would like a better way to burn hi-res to CD. My thought there is to convert the files first to 16/44 and then burn a CD instead of itunes downsampling on the fly...
