  1. I downloaded some free 176 and 192 sample files in anticipation of getting my new DAC. The one I am using now is only 24/96. These higher res files will not play at all on my computer, although the 96 files play no problem. Do I have to download a codec? I am using Foobar. Thanks!
  2. The Bolder Cable Power supply looks very interesting. This, for me, could tip me over to the mac mini. With the Bolder, I would be able to use a high end fuse, power cord and they give you an upgraded cord to the mini. Sounds like you might get better sound with that than on a Mac book. I have purchased a number of things from Welborne and have been happy with them. Their DIY power cords are decent. Would I be limited to a 2009 or earlier mini mac with a linear power supply like the Bolder? I take it not? Thanks.
  3. Much thanks for the replies. Extremely helpful, but not unexpectedly, opens up some new questions. I certainly would want to replace the power supply on the mini. Obviously, that would seem to be a place where significant sonic improvements could be had. Is that a DIY project or is there a place that does that? If DIY, does anyone know what improved power supply to use? Maybe a 2009 model is the way to go. I will have to look more closely at the Apple TV. Not exactly sure what it does, I guess stream video off the net, but apparently delivers lossless audio as well. Appreciate an other alternative, thx. Finally, is there any advantage to using a Mac book or whatever the Apple note books are called over the Mac minis? I guess a Mac book would be DC powered, thus avoiding the grunge from the AC system. Although a good power conditioner would seem to help to if the notebook is plugged into the AC outlet. Any additional thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks you again for these very helpful replies.
  4. Hi All. I am new into computer audio--not audio in general. Thinking about getting a mac mini, controlled by an iTouch and used with Amarra and the new AR DAC8. Here are my questions. The Mac mini seems to be great on storage. The only thing that bothers me is the fan. Both from an electronics pespective and physical noise. Does anyone use a mini and does the fan bother you? Also, I will have the mini near my system with no screen. If I need a screen, I will hook the mini to my PC on the other side of the room via an adaptor. Is this the fact that I will have no screen during playback (other than the iTouch) even workable? Thank you.
