  1. I have one important question. I would probably get this item if it supports One Coaxial and One Optical input at the same time as long as it is used one at a time? I want to use the coaxial input for my digital music play and the optical for my Oppo blu-ray player.
  2. I need to take care now in how I pick my future components. I have decided to get the Rogue Integrated Amp for my Birthday. I went to this High End Audio Pawn shop and they just got this Rogue Integrated Tempest Amp that was about 5 years old. He played for me, and I immediately decided to get one. Although that amp retailed for nearly $3,000 new, it was on consignment and the asking price was too close to getting a new Cronus model, besides it was too big for my space constrictions. I have to think more about getting that Cambridge M1 DAC now. I am currently putting on my Cds into FLAC format, and now seem to have a handle one what to do in my High End pursuit. Thanks again for you inputs.
  3. First, I like to thank you for attempting to guide me in the right direction knowing I am in need of advice in this area. This will save me much time on my learning curve. I now clearly understand the concept of “Bit Perfect” or “Bit Transparent” as explained in the FAQs. I see that purists deal only in Cds and rip them to FLAC or WMA format to ensure integrity of the music. I guess I did waste my time for the most part. Based on what you told me, I will now make another folder on my External HD to distinguish songs that I will now rip straight from Cds (which I do have as well) and from the music I obtained from iTunes downloads which are mp3, mp4 formats. I will use the 44K, 16-bit conversion for the Cds as suggested. I guess at this point I need to start buying Cds again, which is not a problem for the most important stuff in my music collection. I am now definitely curious to find out later the sonic differences between those two sources. To assist you and others who may be interested in joining the conversion, my system is as follows: WDTV Live (Connected to External WD 1TB HD) using a coaxial to a DAC Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player using a coaxial to a DAC NAD C-326 BEE Integrated Amp (Coaxial input from DAC) PSB Image T6 Towers I am leaning on getting the Cambridge Audio DACMagic, but I will never plan to use a computer in my Home Theater setup. The WD TV Live allows me to access both Video and Audio media in one device using my TV as a monitor which I enjoy. I just did not like that 3.5mm output jack for audio, but that situation allowed me to discover my need for a DAC, which is cool. Yes, that M1 DAC looks nice, but I do not know if the cost will be a factor, I think its price is going to be around $699, that is almost twice the price of the Cambridge DACMagic. I am trying to get back the level of quality of audio I had about 6 years ago, when I used Balanced Audio equipment (BAT VK-60 and VK-3i), Music Hall Black lacquer Turntable, NAD CD Player, and Vandersteen speakers. I am thinking about getting that tube sound again and have been offered by a dealer friend of mine a Rogue Audio Cronus Integrated amp for a trade in on my NAD amp for $1250. That sounds very tempting. Thanks again for your input Eloise
  4. Read the FAQs and realized WAV is the wrong format to use. Currently encoding all my iTunes files to FLAC format. This site is very useful in getting me on the right start. Still deciding on DAC to use. Leaning towards Magic DAC now since I desire the two outputs for coaxial. No remote is a bummer, but I can live with it. I hope some are tolerant of my inexperience in this area.
  5. I am a newbie to the digital music arena, as I been a long time audiophile and recently picked up my desire for High End audio again, but not using a turntable anymore. I am good with computers but not very knowledgeable about music formats and just getting my feet wet. I built a Network system in my home, which consist of two Netgear NAS units. I use one for back up the other. I do not really use them for streaming music but just storing music and other media and data. I am using a Western Digital WD TV Live Plus unit hooked to a USB WD 1TB Hard Drive to access music files. I copy the music from the Network Drives to this USB Drive, as I feel more comfortable playing music this way rather than trying to stream it from my Network Drives. I converted all my iTunes music, using a sound converter program (Switch Sound Converter), to WAV format, as I learned that this lossless format is much better for music reproduction. I converter these files to 48k, 32 bit stereo. My question concerns my dilemma with obtaining the best sound from the WD TV Live media player that is hooked up to the USB Drive. I realized quickly I did not want to use the mini-plug output jack to hook up directly to my NAD amp. I was told that using a DAC was a perfect solution to my problem, and it opened my eyes to the world of DACs. I never used these items before when I was in High End before since I was mostly analog, using records. The Cambridge Audio DAC Magic and Musical Fidelity V-DAC seemed to be in my price point. I presently have decided to buy the V-DAC, but now I heard about the new MF M1 DAC that just came out. I prefer at this point the V-DAC since it can be hidden away and will not require me to manually switch between sources, as I want to use it for my WD media player mentioned above and my Oppo 83 blu-ray player. I was thinking of using the coaxial input of the V-DAC for the WD Live unit (music), and the optical input for my Oppo unit. If anyone has any inputs to ensure I have the most optimum sound setup, it would be greatly appreciated since I was told this forum was the best source to obtain advice on these matters.
