  1. Confused newbie here. If I use an external usb dac with mac mini does that bypass the effects of amarra or does it still work its magic before sending signal out digitally?
  2. I just purchased Amarra Mini. I spoke with the folks at Sonic Studio and v2.1 is due within a few weeks that will include memory play from RAM.
  3. Not yet Eloise. It did come up first in my google search but I was looking for a recommendation like yours. I'll give it a whirl, thanks. Anyone else have another favorite? Dave
  4. I'm trying to import my SACD collection to a mac mini. I use http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260649643838 which strips the audio signal from the hdmi output of my Oppo BluRay player and then I send it to the mini via toslink. The oppo will output 88 but I need a program to capture the sacd in the mac. Any great programs out there?
  5. Thanks for the info. I turned off the precheck feature and this has cut the time by about half. The resulting reports look about the same. My disks are in good shape so I don't expect many errors ripping.
  6. I made the leap to a mac mini music server. After getting all of the hardware and laboriously ripping a dozen disks with XLD I hooked it us to my music system using Pure Music. I have a very revealing Meridian based system that had been mainly HT via an Oppo BDP-83. After tweaking the PM repeatedly, I just couldn't get the level of sound quality that I had through the Oppo with apodising in the Meridian system. It was nice but it fell short in many aspects. I was really upset that I had spent $$ on a system that I would not use. I had initially rejected Amarra based on reviews and the price differential with Pure Music. Since they also offered a demo I downloaded the Amarra Mini. Whoa, what an improvement. Whatever their special sauce is, in my system, it is well worth the extra couple of hundred dollars. I am so thankful that they are both available for trial.
  7. I am setting up a mac mini server to store my music. There are two 500 gig drives. While talking with an applecare network support tech he recommended leaving the OS on one drive and then using the second drive to store the music instead of using drive two as a raid drive. His point is that performance would be much better and that I should just use an external backup to protect my data. He's the expert but I wanted to get some opinions here about that strategy. Yea or nay?
  8. I am setting up a mac mini server music system. After researching this topic I found that XLD is the most highly recommended bit perfect software. I intend to use pure music with my system. Currently I am ripping on a new, clean system with XLD but it is taking about 30 minutes per cd. Would itunes import with error correction be audibly inferior? It is definitely faster. At this rate it will take me forever to get my music on the server.
