1. I just bought the old one as the convenience of the local storage and iTunes playlist integration are great. Local storage means I don't need to fire up the laptop to listen to music and wave files via my DAC are easily "good enough" that I don't feel like I have to put a disk in the CD player very often. Streaming doesn't interest me yet but will wait and see what that brings to the platform however here in Australia, the content available is likely to be limited.
 2. Thanks for the great review, the perspective was a good one and the comments added value. An excellent post, thanks all.

My view is that this device seems well suited to it's price point unless you can afford more and have a suitable system that matches

:-)
 3. As a first-time DAC buyer and M1 owner, I'm amazed how good this makes my ancient California Audio Labs sound. I always loved the sound of this player with the Boss Upgrade but the M1 is fantastic behind Plinius CD-LAD + SA-100 to Monitor Audio RX6. I can flip the pre-amp between single-ended direct from the player and balanced from the DAC and the difference is...whoa! Just awesome. If this small step has improved things this much, it makes me wonder what the next upgrade step will bring :-) Off to try the optical and USB inputs...
