  1. What's that all about !!! So, it would seem the SB is the way forward... Will track one down and give it a whirl...
  2. Just a quick one. I have a nice MSB DAC - its a Platinum model, the old square box, rather than the new modular system. I had been running an Onkyo digital cradle and and Ipod to feed the DAC (as well as my CD transport). The Onkyo has packed up, and having popped the back off I can't see any obvious damage, or blown components, and the dock doesn't appear to be fatigued and broken. There's not much I can do with it. So as things are moving on component wise at a great speed of knots, I was wondering what the best way forward is..... I don't want to weigh loads of cash out right now, so do you think the squeezbox route is worth pursuing, or does anyone have a better idea? The DAC doesn't have a USB facility just to point out. Most of my download music is via Apple. Thanks JP

    Help.

Yeah the DAC is right up there, but I came across it second hand and thought long term it would be a good bet. I'm still paying for it. Shows my ignorance regarding the output on the Ipod, I didn't realize it's out put was limited to 16 bit. I haven't yet purchased a Mac book Pro, I just heard a few people talking about them as a good starting point. So, if you were starting with a blank canvas, would you go the Mac route or are there better alternatives? I feel a bit silly for not thinking it all through on the technical side of things!

    Help.

I was looking for some help, as my expertise is some what limited in this department. I currently have a system, using the Onkyo Ipod dock (the newish one that takes the digital feed) which I run into an MSB Platinum DAC. This then feeds a Musical Fidelity KW500 amp into the speakers. I have been very impressed with the sound, however I wanted to start downloading some High Resolution tracks from HD Tracks. Would a Mac book Pro with some specialist software (Almarra ?) be the way forward? Or is there any better options out there? I forgot to mention the existing source is an Ipod with the music downloaded in Apple LossLess. Thanks in advance. P
