  1. I had a quick look and it seems interesting. I'm going to investigate further. Thanks for the tip.
  2. Thanks PAR. Edit ID-Tag is the sort of process I'm looking for. I just tried right clicking a music file on my MBP and I get a Mac menu which doesn't seem to include editing metadata. But I'm going investigate whether this would be possible on a Mac with the right software. I always correct Classique to Classic otherwise the files will appear in a different genre in Conductor. I also change the album title to keep the files in some logical order. Thanks again.
  3. Hello, My workflow is: (1) Download music files from Qobuz, (2) copy files into iTunes library on NAS, (3) edit metadata, (4) copy files from iTunes library to HDD on Aurender N10. Is there an easier way of doing this that avoids using iTunes? Thanks Andrew K
  4. OK. Let me explain. I no longer delve into my music library having had problems in the past with iTunes not being able to locate files that I had previously moved in an attempt to organise it. Now I use the "automatically add to iTunes" functionality exclusively and fix any metadata issues in iTunes itself. I naively supposed that I would be able to continue doing this on the N10 internal disk drives but found I could not - at least I haven't found a way yet. At that point I decided to start again and try to erase the disks using Disk Utility or in Finder neither of which seemed to work. At that point the main advantage of having an internal disk drive (simplicity/ease of use) was lost as far as I was concerned. I was expecting the internal storage to act like the internal HDD of my Mac Mini which to me is much easier than using a NAS but it did not. So I have gone back to using the NAS connected to the N10 which works great except I sometimes have duplicates appearing on my iPad due to the internal storage libraries still being there.
  5. While not directly related to your question I bought an N10 a month ago partly for the internal storage capacity. I have found it very difficult to manage files on the internal disks after the initial drag and drop. I use a NAS with it instead and can manage files as I was doing before. So, if you are like me, you may find that the internal storage is not really an asset and your money would be best spent on the rest of the unit.
  6. Many thanks for the encouragement. I saw there is a Guide To Converting From iTunes To Dedicated Music Server in the CA Academy but it requires Windows. I was kind of hoping to avoid that route... My current thinking is that I'm going to maintain my library on an external drive attached to the Aurender to make music library housekeeping in iTunes possible. Right now I have 3 identical libraries (1 external, 2 internal) that appear in my iPad. Not good. I just need to be able to erase the internal disks. I tried OS X Disk Utility. No luck. Like you say slow but steady. Thanks again.
  7. Thanks rwwjr44. My Mac Mini is still connected to the network and I can see the files in Finder but handling network drives is all new to me and I'm not sure how to proceed anyway. I looked at dBpoweramp but that is a Window program and I'm 100% Mac. It almost looks like I'll have to obtain Parallels to run dBpoweramp (or is it PerfectTunes?) in order to get satisfactory results.
  8. I guess you're suggesting dragging and dropping only the folder that contains the new album. I was trying to work with the complete iTunes library having had issues in the past when trying to organise it. At the same time I was trying to maintain the same version of my music library in iTunes and Aurender. I'm guessing now that this is a fools errand at least as regards to the internal HDDs. But I would still like to know how to erase the disks and perform other file management tasks within the music library on the Aurender HDD. There is no good reason I was using both internal drives I was just trying different copying methods (via Ethernet and via USB).
  9. Hello. I hope somebody can help. I replaced my Mac Mini with an Aurender N10 a month ago. I managed to transfer data to Music1 and Music2 using drag and drop and to connect my Synology NAS via AMM. The good news is that the SQ is excellent, much better than I expected. The downside is that it is not obvious to me how to perform some pretty basic functions like add a new album to the music library on the internal HDD. Am I supposed to erase the disks and drag and drop again? What SW do I use to erase the disks? Then there is the problem of keeping classical albums in one piece. They look good in iTunes but not Aurender Conductor. I asked Aurender about this and they told me to update metadata in the Aurender not my PC. To do this they told me to use a separate application like dbPowerAmp for Windows. They haven't yet replied to my follow up. I wonder does that mean I have to install dbPowerAmp somehow in the unit? I feel out of my depth. Any pointers would be very welcome. Andrew
  10. Thanks guys for the help. After experimenting with wireless connection and suddenly, without warning, having a strange noise like a machine gun through my speakers (!) I wired the NAS to my music server via a short ethernet cable. I haven't had problems since and am gradually getting used to the new way of working. So far the big advantage for me is moving files over the network. Ripping or downloading at my desk and then dragging the files over to the NAS located near my system. I realize I'm using only a fraction of the functionality but I'm getting there slowly!
  11. I think there are a few differences but I'll have to work on my knowledge. For example CCC didn't seem to be happy making a clone to the NAS so I ended up dragging and dropping which worked but my guess is that is not the correct way. May I ask a really basic question? Do you connect your NAS to your music server wirelessly or via ethernet cable, and if cable which one? I assumed that it would have to be a wired connection but I'm not sure. Thanks.
  12. Hi DaQi: Many thanks for the pointers. Although I'm not a total technophobe this is way more complicated than I expected! For example, I was hoping to use CCC to clone my external HDD to the NAS drive. But there were several warnings from CCC when I attempted this so I backed off from pressing go. Obviously network drives work differently from a directly connected HDD. Eventually I connected my HDD directly to the NAS via USB and went through DSM File Station and used the Upload tab to drag and drop the iTunes library in OS X. I know this is probably not the most elegant route but at least I have music on the NAS now. I don't use iTunes to manage my library and I'm not worried about number of plays etc. So it's no great loss. From here on I guess I'll just have to keep using the NAS and eventually learn to love it! Best wishes, Andrew
  13. Dear All, My current system's front end is an external HDD to Mac Mini/iTunes/Audirvana+ to Conrad Johnson USB DAC. I have just bought a Synology NAS for greater capacity and security but already I feel out of my depth. I know there are resources all over the internet but I am hoping for some basic guidance to help me through the maze. I have managed to set up a volume with RAID 1 and a shared folder. Now I need to copy my music library from the external HDD to the NAS. I guess I need to use DSM but I can't see how. Many thanks in advance for any help. Andrew
  14. Originally, I had in mind a DAS in RAID configuration which was the question behind my original post but such a solution doesn't seem to be as popular as either a NAS or directly attached storage used together with cloning software. There doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm for a Promise Pegasus say. I don't know why that would be but I think I'll probably go with a NAS after all and then I can get back to you with all my questions. Thanks again everybody. Andrew
