  1. Thank you both for the answers, I’ll continue to evaluate options. I’m thinking the optimized audiophile Linux distros are designed for streamer use mostly, and have some library management abilities.
  2. I am currently running my fanless NUC13 i5 using ROCK in a remote closet. DAC is an MSB Premier via the modular Renderer V2 (Ethernet streamer). Works fine with Roon, but I am wanting to explore other options, and would like to have a more versatile music server. (I don’t need a Linux streamer) I downloaded the trial for JPlayIOS, and confirmed it sees my MSB renderer. It requires a UPNP server, and does not see the music on the ROCK. I wanted to try Audirvana also for control software. I use a combination of iPad, and Mac for control. Would the AL server be configurable to serve up Roon, and UPNP? I could install the Roon license on the Mac, I guess, and read the files from the server. But having Roon core on the server would be better. Long thread here, I read a lot of it, and looked at the AL site some, a bit confusing to chase down the answers I’m looking for. My other option is to re-install Win11, and run Roon and minimserver, but that will require either monitor/keyboard and or figuring out RDP from my Mac to the then PC for upkeep, which seems to be needed often with Windows. A headless purpose built Linux system that meets my needs seem like a better solution. Thanks in advance.

    Lexus

Might be worth experimenting with the EQ system in the car audio itself. Although most car audio systems are a bit on the bright side. But then the car is not the best listening room. I guess the Lexus is rather quiet though, and not a terrible listening room. Depends on how much effort you want to put into tuning the EQ, changing, or applying inline circuitry. Or even see if an add on analog input is available. Trying someone else's phone might help to determine if a phone change will help. It sounds rather easy to use a DAC like the DragonFly to get the sound character that you like though. I will say I have not seen the Analog input in a car for awhile. Even my wife's 8 year old SLK 250 only has a clunky, fraying, proprietary USB adapter (that cable is no longer available anymore from the manufacturer) Bluetooth only for the phone, not audio, kinda a PITA now.

I remember changing out the microSD OS card once, but not sure if there have been additional updates. Includes a 6 inch Curious USB cable There is a wallwart for the LPS1 - but the cable between the LPS and microRendu is AWOL. Pricing this for a person who wants to try out the streaming concept. 6. Depends on library size, and the NAS in question, of course. IF, you have a nicely powered NAS ($$$), a good network, and appropriate renderer, great results can occur. I ran a Synology NAS for a few years. As my library grew, and the processor got older, I noticed sluggishness of Roon. (I had an m.2 cache drive, and SSD disk for ROON) At some point you out kick your coverage. Two other points 1) a NAS that will have this kind of processor is expensive, if you don't need a NAS for other duties, it makes for an expensive server. 2) if you do need the NAS for appropriate duties, it will be slower as well 3) {bonus} NAS software is cryptic to the non-initiated. For a fraction of the cost of a NAS, and with a much better processor, a dedicated music server can be had. I currently run a NUC board, in a fanless case, with an internal m.2 driver for ROCK, and a PCIE SSD for music storage. It lives in the wife's closet with the Modem, Router, Switch, and Wireless Access Point. (a floor away from the music room) Now, if you need a NAS, and have the wherewithal to manage it, and your library is manageable, the appropriate NAS will run the ROON server program. Your mileage may vary based on library size, and NAS specs.
  7. Chris, nice article, and thanks. The Podcast is the Lina one though...
  8. Joining the MSB ranks - MSB Premier with Renderer on order. Pretty stoked.
  9. NUCs support NVME, and SATA M.2 cards. There is a small SATA port, but not a standard one. There are no PCIE slots. I recently ordered a NUC12, and plan to install it in an Akasa fanless enclosure, so no noisy fan. That case comes with the 2.5 SSD Sata cable to include a separate SATA SSD drive in the enclosure. Glad to have snagged a modern NUC before they become unobtainable. My NUC6 has been solid for many years.
  10. I do love these amps. They were designed by a tube guy, I'm sure using his tubed preamps. I recently added a Modwright LS300 tubed balanced preamp. This perfected the sound for me. The Bricasti M12 is a great DAC, and I am sure the pre-amp portion is razor flat, distortion free, but lacking the full body, and solid soundstage of the tubed pre, to my 64 year old ears that learned to love music in the early 70s. I think most the modern Class D amps are well designed, but just like the many class A and class A/B amps out there, there will be differences in sound. This would be either from the actual output designs, or the many different input circuit designs.
  11. Look at Atma-Sphere Class D monoblock amps. A bit over your budget ($5400). 100 watt amps for 8 ohm speakers. Designed towards “tube amp” sounds. If that’s what you are looking for. Actually fairly neutral. I’m adding a tubed pre-amp, for my sound preference.
  12. Someone did step in, supposedly ARC will continue producing and servicing AR devices. Restructuring, yes. Going away now, no.
  13. I currently use Audirvana 3.5 (the old non-subscription program) at the beach, on a Windows laptop. It has played through several USB dongle Dacs, and plays well through an AudioEngine wireless steamer into the home stereo. These are fairly simple use cases, and I never considered difficulty. Rapidly Increasing complexity of the audio software/hardware field is real though, and I can see some of the players trying to protect their customers with these types of approval programs.
  14. I ended up ordering a Modwright LS300. True balanced, Tube rectified.
