  1. DiminishingRetu, Good info. In addition to ripping to a hard drive, I am also looking into the best way to burn my reference discs. I will more than likely grab the PX880 now that I have read your post. Thanks.
  2. Pacific Valve is recommending the Plextor PX88OU $80.00 for use with their CyberServer. If you check it out let me know your thoughts. http://www.pacificvalve.us/CYIndex.html
  3. I have the Cain & Cain Noogi and Spud combo (named after pets) they work well. probably $1500. Place the sub (Spud) as close as is practical, centered between the Noogi's which like to be spaced fairly wide apart. Experiment with the direction of the Fostex drivers. if the upper frequencies bite a bit to much you can dampen the ports ( I used socks ) I ended up removing them when I repositioned the small Spud sub to the other side of my monitor and gained some bass reinforcement. Do not use the Spuds powered amp to run the Noogi's,you can but it sounds like crap. A low powered tube amp 2-10 watts (the new MiniWatt ?) is apparently ideal. my amp is 38 watts and works fine. Voices sound excellent. It took a fair amount of experimenting to get the bass set right for most music and keep the articulate upper bass while losing the occasional shout on some music. A little bit of money, but it is my bedroom and desktop system and there is that word audiophile in the name of this website.
  4. For some reason when I use the e-mail support button on their web page the undeliverable message shows up. I sure did not intend to suggest HRT would not provide good support. I have been working long hours, but should be able to call them next Wed. or Thurs The retail dealers, distributor tech support has not responded to a follow up, regarding the powered usb not working, but I have e-mailed them only once about it I have three usb 2.0 ports on the back of the iMac with an apple keyboard and mouse connected to one. I have disconnected the printer, and have verified via the system profiler that the iSight,IR receiver and keyboard and mouse are on different usb ports, I have only the Streamer on the powered hub, on an isolated usb port on the iMac. I have double checked audio output settings. I am not getting the pop up warning, but no audio and the erratic and dimming desktop behaviour continue. And thanks for the system profiler usb view tip from you guys, checking that will expediate the troubleshooting with Apple or HRT
  5. Thanks Scot, This morning I plugged the HRT into three different usb ports on the back of the iMac, double checking via the system profilier with the same type problem occuring a dimming, eratic desktop and no sound output with the HRT II+ connected. Then used a Kensington seven port powered usb hub, the iMac recognized the Streamer but the same problem repeated itself. I guess I will take the Streamer to an Apple store and see if the problem is repeated. Hopefully can get this figured out. This does make one pause, do I really want to invest the time and money and deal with technical quirks of a high quality computer based system. My first computer dac, a simple line out to a dac to an integrated initially worked great, has now consumed hours of time. Although I am not a computer whiz, I work thru the issues that come up with them, there is some satisfaction in improving knowledge base and troubleshooting skills. But basically I do it because I need to. I do not really want to spend countless hours on this stuff, I can't get thru to HRT via e-mail ( I can call next week), the tech support for the distributor of the product I purchased it thru is dropping the ball. Perhaps I should wait for a good reasonably priced turn key answer. Maybe I'm just cranky this morning. Hey I am not in Iraq, I am healthy and have a job, I will stop whinning now.
  6. Hello everyone, I have been visiting this page to get up to speed and now I could use some of your experience. I had been using the HRT II+ with my 27" iMac without any problems for about two weeks until this notice popped up " Because a usb device is draining to much power the port it is plugged into will be deactivated" If this message does not appear I get erratic desktop behaviour including dimming and non functioning mouse and keyboard every time the Streamer is connected. I tried a different usb cable same problem ( the second cable was 6' long) Although not recommended by HRT I tried a powered usb hub, Leopard did not recognize the Streamer thru this hub. HRT's support e-mail's are not delivered (Yahoo-the account has been disabled or discontinued) Before I call them does anyone have any other troubleshooting steps I should take.
