  1. I am glad I asked the question. I spent most of my day reading old threads about the same issue, thank you so much for the information. I am going to go look at the MacSales sight again, I didnt find what I was looking for when I first set out doing this. based on what you sent for info, by upgrading to firewire I will almost triple the speed to 80-90MB?
  2. I am hoping someone could lead me to figuring out why my WD 3 TB my book has a very low read and write speed. I am using a late 2009 mac mini that I have upgraded with an internal 120 GB SATA Solid State hard drive and upgraded the RAM to 2 x4 GB. It has performed very well however I am encountering very low read a write speeds on my external drive. I have looked into the system reports and can not see anything out of sorts. It looks like the USB ports are high speed bus, should be suitable for at least 480 MB/SEC. I checked my current read write speed for the external drive and its about 30 MB/SEC while my SSD is over 300MB/SEC. I am in the process of setting up Pure Music as my music software however with that super low read speed I will be dead before it can process all my music files, mostly DSD and FLAC. Can anyone help me figure out the low speed please!!! below is all my system info that might be needed. 3. There are too many things to consider, I would not be able to pass along an educated guess. Are you comparing digital files from your computer vs. cds? or are you playing your cd's via your CD17 through to your 100d? If you haven't tried that, I would do that first. I use my 300D all the time now, rarely there will be an occasion that I will use the moon CD 5.3 which it a truly a great CD player. I am guessing that you will have to start at the basics. As much as I want to believe that the 100 is pretty much plug in and use, there should be something thats causing the pain. I noticed a difference almost immediately, the differences I heard during burn in were slight and detailed. It was not dramatic! I suggest do some trouble shooting?? we all have different ears and preferences, I would be surprised if you cant figure this out
  4. Over a few years I have managed to save all my cds as FLAC files on external hard drives. I did this using a PC with windows. Not thinking about possible issues I recently purchased a I7 IMac and love using it. I would like to be able to play my audio files using the Imac and still us the PC as well. I have been reading tons of information but have not been able to figure out if this is something I should attempt. Does anyone have experience doing this successfully or can someone tell me their opinion. All the hard drives were formatted for pc use.
  5. I was able to find a solution as a result of your reply....thanks!
  6. I am wondering if someone can help me with a problem. I am trying to update my Rotel RSP1570 Processor with the most current software and I can not figure out how to connect my computer so that it will connect with the Rotel unit. In the instructions it tells me to use the serial port or a USB to serial adapter. The Rotel has a RJ45 port and so does my laptop. My laptop does not have a serial port. I have USB, HDMI, and the network RJ45. I thought it would be simplely to connect the two but not so. Can someone help me to figure out how to connect?? Thanks.
  7. Thanks for the information! I could not agree more definitely one the the best Hifi investments I have ever made as well...it really is just that good.
  8. Congrats, I am happy to hear you took the big plunge in purchasing the 300D. How much of a difference did you find when you compared the 100 model? I have to take my hat of to Simaudio.
  9. have fun with that, Im interested to hear how that goes.
  10. This is tough to answer with no clear favorite. Right now I like the optical toslink with the Mac and SPDIF coax with the windows. you will not be disappointed with the USB for either too. I use the USB lots. Its great to have that many quality options....if I could only use one I would pick coax I have found that the difference between USB and coax can be big depending which equipment I use. With my moon equipment, the difference is lesser than if I am using it with Rotel. Signals from my cable box work best with toslink, I cant figure that one out....its not even close. David
  11. my test using my sony cd player thu the dac was comparing the cd5.3 on the same tracks and honestly they were identical, I was amazed, infact that is why I love to tell about it. I love the cd5.3 it is fantastic.
  12. The 100d is a component that I would probably purchase as a travel companion when I would be away from home for longer periods of time or perhaps on a starter system at the cottage. In my friends system it works perfect however, I dont believe that it comes close to a 5.3 and I also used PS audio and a few others costing a lot more. Its better than most that I have heard. The 300 is transparent and carries a very natural sound. I can best describe it as refined and as close to sitting on a stage or in the audience as I have heard on components. Sure, if I throw large sums of money above the equipment I currently own, I am sure after carefully listening and analysising I would have some positive to say about the more expensive equipment however, we should be enjoying the music and the difference really then is about how deep your pockets are With the 300d I absolutely gave up tweeking and spend alot more time just enjoying. I am sure this is not something that I will upgrade any time soon. Simaudio executives are unbelievable in the level of customer service they give when required. I could never say enough about that company. Buy a 300d, rest your mind and enjoy the music.
  13. Once I had a chance to put a few hundred hours on the 300D, I spent countless hours doing blind listening tests first with myself and then with my friends every chance I had. From my own listening preferences when I used my 10 year old Sony cd player via coax through into the 300d and using moon w5.3 and P5.3 I thought the sound was exactly the same, only on two tacks of music did I ever think there was a difference. When I listened to digital music from my Windows Laptop or my Imac, the 300d in my opinion is much better than listening to my moon cd player doing a side by side, track for track. The 100 did have some sonic differences in my opinion. It was very good, however I dont think it is as good as the 300. My friend has the 100 and we have played with it lots. very very nice for the price.
  14. I own the 300d and have been using it in various ways, have tested all connections and compared to my CD5.3 player I would have to say the DAC is one of the best audio investments I have ever made. No worries about any thing you are reading about jitter etc....the DAC will clean up audio.....I love it and recommend it to anyone
  15. done everything I can think of. short of uninstalling and reinstalling. It worked very well for a couple of days. I have to find out if there is a way to save settings in ASIO...something is telling me that is my issue. Update... I downloaded the j river media 15 and installed and configured two seperate ways based on the how to guide. Still the same issues only worst. I know my dac only accepts via usb 16 bit, however it will upsample. Anyone with any suggestions???
