  1. im going to see what different tube models they offer, they have a 40.00 tube i believe i wanna see what there sales person recommends and try that and see what i like the best for this processor i`m using. I want to try there best offerings are and make my decision for it. Tj comes highly recommended, here was a description that caught my eye. Eric, This descrption is what really struck my attention on the tube and what i am looking for from a tube in this product TJ tube description, The specificty and weight of individual voices or instruments is unbelivable! I sat a few feet away from the sweet spot and the soundstage changed very little! I expected a little more detail but what blows me away is how natural and realistic the soundstage sounds. The air around Triangles and Cymbals and Brushes is the best I have heard in my home. The Midrange and Bass is also astounding. I have owned some nice equiptment over the years including Watt 3 and Puppys driven by a Classee DR9 amp and DR6A Preamp and numerous Plinius products but this little combo is the best by quite a margin, that I have heard in my home. You would think the Harbeths cost megabucks! I can now concentrate on the misic instead of the equiptment. I could go on and on but You get my Drift. Thank you very much!
  2. a few Dacs, The Apogee Rosetta, The Benchmark, Lavry DA 10 which I own, The Berkeley & Finally the Weiss. I felt the Apogee was a bit to grungy in the mid band just a little to edgy for my ear. I used the Benchmark with a Mark Levinson No. 335 and it had an amazing midrange and nice top end, but when i compared these to the Lavry I said the Lavry is the one for me. The DA10 has a great all around sound it is really enjoyable. A buddy of mine bought the Berkeley and was crazy for it and I came over to take a listen and i have to say it does sound brilliant, dark I dont know if thats a characteristic I would describe it to have, a bit more natural and fluid and easy on your ears is another description I would say it has as well. Does it have the proper synergy with your amplifier???? possibly not.. You might find the Lavry DA11 to have better synergy with your system & amplifier then the Berkeley, as Bryston is a ref sound and used in recording studios to mix on. Lavry DACS are primarily used in studios as well so that might be a better fit for your system. I asked my buddy a few days later to let me bring my Lavry DA10 over to compare and see if it was worth purchasing this DAC for quite a deal more money. I heard the DA10 in comparison to the Berkely and I feel the Lavry has a more natural sound and said this is still the one for me. The bass response and top end i feel are superior to the berkeley, however mids more creamy on the Berkeley. So I see what you mean on the unit taking on a darker sound as you expressed. Then I demoed the Weiss and that was it for me, not only is it better then my trusty DA10,, it is light years ahead of my Lavry and where my money will be spent next for system, after the next 5 components i go for Regards Phil
  3. try both, jj & TJ music, im hearing from a friend the slovac tubes are superior to russian or Chinese, will see, i did read a review on the TJ tube and what he described of it is what I am looking for in a tube, but will see how this translates to my ear on my system i have
  4. I have some front end processing in my current home system which features Ruby 12ax7a tubes. i rolled some NOS amperex 12 ax7a tubes from west germany & have some from Holland as well. I am told by many collectors the Amperex 12ax7a tube does not exist, but i do have these from west germany, these Amperex tubes say west Germany painted on the glass, and from what i am told were made out of the telefunken plant mid 60s vintage. I tried some NOS rca and thought it was pungent in the mid and tight in the bass, so i went rt back to my vintage amperex 12ax7a tubes. When i used the Ruby tubes i felt it was brittle on the top end and bloated in the bass. I will try the RCA again to hear and judge again. So back to my question for the 12au7 what do you guys feel are the better tubes available today Thanks Phil
  5. i`m looking into these tubes, what are the best New stock tubes available today? I hear Muller are coming back, any truth, hows the quality or is it a marketing game using this old name ? Im not interested in rolling NOS vintage tubes unless i really have to Are the Ruby chinese the best today from China, or russian tubes the best and what brand are the better tubes and from where are they made ? What is available today that is high quality?
  6. as you can see where my taste and heart is with amps and why i started this thread to see where i want to go in power, just want the rt amp and why i will hunt for the rt product. I have found speakers and a DAC recently i adore now im looking at amps.
  7. Krell and Bryston, but the Bryston on Dyns were enjoyable to a point, is it enjoyable to where i would spend my money on these, No, but I have yet to hear the Class`e proper as noted above.
  8. Didn`t he have his circuit in other manufacturers amps, Adcom GFA amps i believe had Nelson Pass`s circuit in them. I have heard a few amps with his circuit attached to them and always found them fatiguing, maybe i`m wrong on this, but if so I wasent crazy for his circuit in these other amp designs, thou i will still listen openly to his Class A amps to see if there for me because its a pure Pass design his way.
  9. a Bi polar Linear class H amp you demoed, which can sound amazing as well. I have heard a few of the mac products, 2100, 2105, 2125 which is prob the prettiest of them all, the 2200 my 2300, and the 402, they all have the same dark or warm some may say, a very sweet sound with a rolled off top end. I don`t feel they have proper synergy with the B&W 802s. A Bryston 4B, 7B or 14B sst MIGHT work well with the 802, with there fast ref sound and wide frequency response that can light them up so to speak but id have to listen to it to see what it would do on the 802s. I have heard the Bryston stuff on Dynaudios and it worked well. I did feel that the 802s did lack intelligible bass and sounded like it was a touch smeared sounding in the lower information, lack of deliniation or individuality, i did not find them to be natural at all in this showroom setting, but too ripe. The one thing i noticed "on this demo with these components" was a film clouding up the music so to speak, smearing in the low midrange/midbass on the classical passage we heard played, The upper mids & top end was pleasant. I then asked the salesman if they have and jazz with low end resolution to make the system work a little bit to see how it sounded with this content, so he put on a jazz cut, and this same film was more prominent to my ear, but twice as pronounced. So I had said to myself i don`t think its the speakers but something else in the chain leading up to this. Most likely the pre amp, Lack of DAC and this server. I have heard the older 802s and they did not have this film so to speak clouding up the source, so it had to be from something else in the chain. So I want to hear this Class`e & 802s at a diff show room to see if its the same situation. I will email them for other dealers in the ny nj area that have this set up but not on a system with the Rotel set up, this is the only way to judge this product. Socrates7 interesting sounding amp design i want to hear this amp and see if i like it, I will look into this and see what i can find out. Thanks Phil
  10. After he told me we will audition music from the server I asked him what Dac are we listening to from the server ? when he said we are listening out of a server without a DAC, i just paused and was like ummmm ok, why is there no dac? he said this is how we have it set up. Then I listened to music and thought to myself I have to go to a higher end store to really give the amp a fair chance. Phil
  11. with the mismatch product a midfi pre amp to be paired up to speakers such as B&W, i really cant see any great Synergy there. Which is why i will go hear the Class`e in another showroom, but was interested in the Pass Labs design as my friend had told me If you want a serious Class A amp there is no better then the Pass Labs. Will see what my ears tell me as i have heard some amazing Class AB lately as well. Once i find a Class A amp i like, & Class AB I enjoy the most, i will do my own comparison. , ill take the amps i choose i like the most of both Classes to a room a trust the most I will listen to these 2 choices of topologies on the Speakers i enjoy the most and decide my purchase, Its very hard to really decide with room varying so much from place to place.
  12. the source thru a music server, with a Mac I touch to control the source choice. My buddy has a pair of 802s from about 5 yrs ago with a mac on them and felt they were slow and dark sounding, a bit lifeless. The Chord amps did leave a nice impression on me from what i recall hearing them well over 5 years ago, but i cent recall how they sounded as my experience is limited, 1 time auditioning them on Dynaudio loud speakers. I was really let down with the entire set up as they had low end power conditioners as well, I use a older Limited Edition Lightspeed and love it and cant part with it. I did forget to ask what power chords they were using, i`m looking into this as well, i am leaning twards Shunyata Anaconda that i heard at a place in NYC on 16th st.
  13. I am in the market for a High end amp in the 150-400 watts per channel range, I am auditioning a few different amps from High end Class AB, to Class A. I have experience with the Mark Levinson No. 334, 335 as well and Krell Dual Monural amps. My cousin uses Krell on his Thiel and thats his favorite amp at the moment. I was recently at a hifi shop in long isl and I auditioned a Class`e amplifier with the new B&W 802s. I did enjoy the sound on some passages of music the only thing that I did find to disturb my ear, was the same thick texture in the midrange, which i felt was a bit over ripe esp in the low mids maybe a touch washed out at times. I want to go hear a Pass Labs amp next week and see how i like this product. What are some experiences here others have found with a Pass Labs in the voicing, how would it compare to a Class`e amp, this was the 1st time I have listened to the Class`e products, so i want to hear this amp on other speakers so i can decide if i like it or not. The Class`e had 200 watts per ch on the new B&W 802s with a Rotel Pre amp, no external DAC, this is how they had it set up out of there music server & I was shocked when they told me this. So I can not fairly judge any of the products I auditioned, because there were some variables that will not let you get the most out of the demo in this situation. They did not have other products to test with the amp or vice versa with the B&Ws. So i was wondering what others might have experienced here in comparison Thanks Phil
