Hi everybody. I am avid music listener and usually do all my listening on my computer. I rip my cd's and store on my computer. I have an M-Audio 2496 soundcard and I listen to headphones via this card. I would like to get even better quality sound but do not know which is best next step?
1) Should I get an even better spec sound card? For example E-mu 1212m? Will a higher SNR help? I pretty much already have "black" silence.
2) Should I get an outboard DAC? For example a Beresford?
3) Do I need a dedicated headphone amp along with one of the above?
Any suggestions? All my music is converted to flac and I have plenty of hard drive space.
I am quite happy with my sound now but would like to take it to the next level. I have some good AKG, Sony and Sennheiser phones and Klipsch in ears with dual armatures.
I mustly listen to jazz, contemporary and cinematic music from 60's.
