  1. Thanks for all help. I have been looking at alternatives to the breakout cable... I might order one of those solutions later. Looks like these solutions are to make it more solid, and not for sound quality reasons?
  2. Yes, it seems the Duet is the right thing to use for scheme 2. So thank you, it was just what I needed to know...
  3. Hi Excuse my total newbie question. I realize CD is dead, and want to hook up my computer into my HiFi equipment. I suppose it's not audiophile-grade equipment I have, but OK eqpuipment anyway. I was thinking of purchasing the Apogee Duet for sound card, cause I have a mac and it's very popular among musicians, plus I'd like to do a little recording too (NOT using my HiFi for recording/music production, but my small active speakers as monitors). Anyway, my HiFi equipment is the "old school" type with no digital in, no surround, just a stereo integrated amplifier with analog line in via RCA plugs. So, the idea is MacBook -> Duet -> amplifier -> speakers. The thing I'm wondering about is whether this might damage the speakers, in case the computer makes some abrupt digital noise? For instance during shutdown? Is this how you computer audiophiles do it, or do you need some of that modern "home cinema" stuff, active loudspeakers or something else that's prepared for the modern age of computer sound? Of course, this setup will only be used for music, through iTunes and Spotify. BTW my speakers are Tannoy Saturn S8CLR, with drivers that look very solid, they look exactly like on the picture, except the drivers are in the center: http://www.tnt-audio.com/casse/tannoy-concentric_e.html ...in case that makes any difference. I love my speakers very much. So should I avoid, or go for the setup above?
