  1. That’s good news. Hopefully it makes Roon Only mode less advantageous. I like the fact that in normal mode I can use the app volume control if in another room. That disappears in Roon Only mode.
  2. Is that through Roon Only mode, or has the update improved Roon sound quality in normal mode? (I’m out of the country so can’t try it yet).
  3. I’ve tried net and general resets, and re-updating the QX-5 firmware. I did wipe out Roon Core and re-install from backup. But do you mean installing Roon not from backup? Thanks.
  4. This won’t help but I can’t even run Roon on my QX-5, via Ethernet. It’s Roon Uncertified. Ayre has no idea of how to fix. I’ll have to wait for the Net2 boards.
  5. Peter…the P1 looks interesting. But one concern I have is the sound quality when using Roon. Roon is adequate, but I find HQPlayer is necessary to get good sound. I use an OpticalRendu as an NAA for this, but since the P1 has optical in, it would be great to play directly to the P1, without the extra box and power supply. Is an NAA something you’ve ever considered implementing?
  6. If the QX-5 is connected to Ethernet, powering down then turning back on should bring up the “Update?” message. Press the right hand button and it will show “Updating”.
  7. Audioquest Vodka, from the router to the STi9 and to the router from the jack on the wall.
  8. Unfortunately, when I tried connecting the SonicTransporter i9 Optical to opticalRendu directly, via single mode optical cable, the problem persisted. Unless you’re suggesting the Ethernet cables upstream of the STi9/OpticalRendu could cause this issue?
  9. Yes. Further testing has ruled out the EtherRegen as responsible for my occasional dropouts. So I’ve reinstalled it, since my system sounds so my better with the EtherRegen!
  10. I assume then that the opticalModule doesn’t have flow control. When I use the SonicTransporter i9’s optical out, from what I understand, it’s essentially an internal opticalModule that sends optical to the opticalRendu. I have the dropouts in this configuration too (without the EtherRegen in the path).
  11. Yes, Roon’s upsampling doesn’t cause an issue. Thanks very much for pointing out the difference. I hadn’t realized. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll have to pick up a switch for testing purposes.
  12. The router is AMPLIFI. The switch is EtherRegen. I’ve also used the switch that’s built into the SonicTransporter, to output optical directly to the opticalRendu. Currently, the STi9 is connected to the router, then to the EtherRegen for conversion to optical, because it sounds better than optical out from the STi9. But any way I’ve connected these doesn’t seem to have an effect on the (occasional) dropouts. So, I’m left with the issue being the OpticalRendu, or it’s interaction with the DAC. Doing all these experiments requires multiple rebooting of the opticalRendu because it doesn’t always see the DAC afterwards. Sometimes I need to disconnect it from power, re-insert the SD card, then power up to get it working. This is why I suspect the opticalRendu. It works fine with Spotify or as a Roon endpoint. It’s just as an HQPlayer NAA where I have trouble.
  13. I’m having occasional dropouts with Roon/HQPlayer. My SonicTransporter i9 optical should be powerful enough. I’ve downgraded the HQPlayer settings to easier ones, but that doesn’t help. I’ve updated and rebooted my opticalRendu, STi9, and everything else, countless times. I’m out of ideas.
  14. I hope it rolls out to the SonicTransporters soon. This uneven core issue would only have to improve a little to get ASDM7ECv2 / DSD256 to work on my i9.
