    RaspyFi

Anyone tried this distro for the Raspberry Pi. RaspyFi - Pi never sounded so good!
  2. I realy like these articles, but I would love to read one with Voyage MPD or Vortexbox as OS, and se how this would messure up to a Windows or OSX server with regards to sound quality. I can see the point you make with regards to setting up this OS requires a little more skill compared to W8, but linux has come far in recent years, and there is a lot of forums to seek help, so it should be possible for most out there to get it up and running. In my opinion MPD beats W8 and OSX when it comes to the sound quality. And with Mpad on iPad operation is a breeze Makes No Sense At All » MPaD
  3. their as in "HRT's dac"? If he refers to HRT why even ask, as he knows already it does not have any volume control and software control was not an option?
  4. And the Gallo Ref 3.1 has never sounded better. I used to run a Lyngdorf 2200 on them earlier, but this settup is better by a big margin. It's sweeter sounding and dead quiet. Reading the 6moons review this was also the prefered way to run this DAC But this would of course be dependent on the equipment you are running. And you need to match the gain on the amp/dac I can't hear any degradation in sq on normal listening levels, only when turned down to a very low level there is an audible sound degradation ( as if listening to mp3 files instead of flac)
  5. Maybe you could try audiolense from juice HIFI. It's not the cheapest of SW, but in my opinion it the best for the job. You would need a mic/pre to be able to record the sweep's. You could download a trial version if you are just intrested in the sweep result, and are not intrested in the correction file. http://www.juicehifi.com/index.html
  6. On the Touch is suposed to degrade the sound quality of the SB. Therfore it is recomended to run Scueezecenter on a seperate computer. Coax is preferable over optical S/PDIF. I don't have the Touch, so I cant say for sure it degrades the sq,but reading som reports, most of them agree that it's better to run SS on a dedicated computer/NAS. http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.com/p/squeezebox-touch-great-base-for-network.html
  7. you are most comfortable with. Both OS do a good job if implemented corectly. Personaly I prefere W7. The choice should rater bee firewire or USB. Firewire is far superior to USB, but there is DAC's around now that can do as good a job in regards to SQ, asynchronous DAC's like Weiss,Wyred4Sound or even HRT Music Streamer. Seeing that FW is a "dying" protocol for consumer market, I would choose a OS I am comfortable with an playback software acordingly. Then I would invest in a good async. USB DAC.
  8. Would bee my choice, It's brilliant, and the developer is very helpfull. It is simple to use, and together with programe like J-River you would have a system that far exeede Lyngdorf/Tact/Deqx. But if you are just going to try it with Squeezebox I would have tried it with some free software like DRC. I am curently using Audiolense on my computer, I previously had the Lyngdorf 2200RP, but Audiolense and Lynx soundcard far exeed the Lyngdorf in terms of soundquality and function.
  9. is poor at best, last time I tried it it did not suport higher version than 7.3 on squeezecenter. But that might have changed now. Its fairly easy to install, and out of box you hav a good EQ. For running room correction you need to messure the room, and thats where programs like Audiolense or Accourate comes in, they produce the file you need to load in to Inguz for roomcorrection. There is a fairly good guide on the Inguz website. In adition to the software, you need a good soundcard an mic for messuring purpose around 200-300 usd should get you started.
  10. If you use a computer why not use it to its full potetial. Audiolense from http://www.juicehifi.com/index.html Is a Roomcorection and X-over solution for you, partner with a highend audiocard like Lynx and J-River you could run a activ crossover and roomcorrection setup. But if you rather go with a new box there's Deqx. A cheap simple solution is Squeezebox with Inguz plugin.
