  1. Re: "It won't be as bad as they tell you it will." True. It's worse. I have four- three girls and a boy. Life will never be the same... ;^) Brad
  2. B x 2: I want to thank you two again. I have been meaning to f/u, but I was out in Colorado for a week with the family, then came back and decided to buy a muscle car. (Yes, I'm a fool.) So I got the Blue Heaven Speaker cables hooked up and burned in, and well... HOLY DOODIE!!!!!!!!!! Yep, 'ol George Cardas can kiss my patootie- I'll never use any Cardas again. LITERALLY a new system. Top end, transients with MUCH more sparkle with no glare at all. Now this system sounds like I intended. Yes, I also tried Blue Heaven ICs, and they are nice also (replaced Cross also), but not as big a difference as the Blue Heaven Speaker cables. I have to ask, who likes Cardas Cross? People with blown Woofers? I can't understand it, they sound TERRIBLE in my system. You guys saved my butt, thanks again! If you ever have problems with your eyes, advice is pro-bono. This was not a small problem you fixed. Brad
  3. Thanks Barry and Barrows. I had heard similar about the red dawns, but again I am VERY wary (that's a mouthful) about others opinions of cables unless their systems are similar to mine, or I know their thinking relatively well. Again, too many variables; including set up that most people have all wrong because of lack of information or SAF (Spouse AF). Thanks again. Brad
  4. Barry, If you would, one more question- I see your Blue Heavens are on the floor. I assume you are a non believer therefore in the dialectric charging of cables on carpets? Or are the BHs uninsulated and therefore don't have a dielectric to charge? Brad
  5. Barry and/or Barrows, The speaker cables are on the way. Interestingly, Music Direct is clearing out the old versions of Blue Heavens and red dawns now that the Leif versions are out. Have you heard the red dawns? Any idea if there is synergy between the red dawns as ICs and blue heavens as SCs? There is lots of debate about whether cables have a "house sound" that just gets better as you rise in price versus whether different cables from the same manufacturer actually have different sonic characteristics at the different price levels. As far as Cardas goes, no question in my mind- their cables have very different sonic signatures in my system at the different price levels. So much so that I would hazard a guess that some of the less expensive Cardas cables would sound better in many systems (depending on overall system sound) than some of George's more expensive cables. BTW, they also have Baldurs on sale, which i know nothing about. Have you theories here? Brad
  6. Thanks, Barrows. As I said to Barry, sorry it took me a while to get back to you, the office was very busy yesterday, and I was in the OR today. The MF Amp does have a separate power supply, so I thought it might be doable safely, but I guess I'll just have to teach the 'ol lady how to push one button. I do love an all Maggie theater, though. Brad
  7. Thanks, Again Barry. I bought a pair of Blue Heaven Bi Wires yesterday, so I'll let y'all know. I wonder if you have ever heard your floating platform used with Mye stands? The Mye stands had an incredible impact on the Maggies, especially in the bass. Smoother and tighter. Imaging tightened up immensely too. regarding the panel traps, they are 4" deep and permanently mounted in all room boundaries. I ain't movin' 'em, especially as the bass measures much better with them! can you use the roller bearing stands on carpet? Are the roller cups spiked? Sorry I didn't get back to you for a while, I had emergencies in the office yesterday, and I was in the OR today. Oh well, if I don't work, no new cables! Brad
  8. B x 2 Thanks to you both. There is crap for dealers down here in general, and nobody I can find who will lend cables (Cable Co. never seems to have what I want), so I generally play the Audiogon/eBay game, i.e. buy quality used and try 'em- if I like 'em, buy more new or used. If I don't like 'em, sell 'em for a small profit or loss. I have the Maggies well placed (Cardas set up plus tweaking -similar to Barry's set up instructions). Room exceptionally well bass trapped with 32 panel traps. Maggies have cardas jumpers (do I need to change these too?) and upgraded fuses. Have Mye stands with small forward tilt. Anything else you would do? Also, Barrows, as you seem to be the local expert in this subject, I have my main amp (Musical Fidelity KW750)on a dedicated 20 amp circuit. (here comes the heresy...) I would love to be able to power it remotely to use the 3.6s as side channels in a 7 channel theater in the same room without screwing up the clean power. It would allow me to let the rest of the family use the theater with a single button push on the remote. Do PS Audio or anyone else make an IR or low voltage 20amp switched power outlet? Is there a better way to do it? I have a quintet that I use for the surround amps, but they are 15 amp, and not used for 2 channel music and i don't want to plug the big amp into it. Sorry for hijacking the thread... Thanks in advance! Brad
  9. Thanks, Barrows. The system is well dialed in, but exactly as you say if anything it is a little dark and slow, at least for maggies. I truely hate playing with cables, as I do not like too many variables with tweaks and with cables there seem to be many. Hopefully these cables will open it up a little and that will be good. Do you like the Nordost ICs, too? I have cardas cross ICs now and I fear if I like the speaker cables, I'll be needing to consider the ICs. Ugh...
  10. Thanks, Barry. I'm just playing the tuning game, using cardas Cross speaker now, and thinking about tweaking with some blue heaven speaker cables.
  11. Barry, If you use Blue heaven on maggies, did you reterminate them with maggie pins? Do the z plugs fit the maggies? Are these different speakers? Thanks.
  12. Notes so far for Lion on Mini: No PM integer playback. No 24/96 (just does nothing, even in iTunes). Damn, now what?
  13. 1. Does that fly have flat wings or curly wings? High school genetics joke... 2. I too hate the fly. 3. If anyone needs long ethernet cable, I bought a 200' length a while back (Belkin) and turns out I didn't read the eBay ad well- it was 5 200' lengths! I have 2 left. If anybody needs one, I'll give 'em to you if you pay for shipping to you from South Florida. Call it payback for all the information I have found here. Let me know if interested.
  14. Sorry, Y'all. The debate between me and the audiophile in my head was whether I should use wired internet to the Mac Mini, and disable the WiFi in the mini server to better the sound performance. The same with bluetooth, as I use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, especially when doing A/B testing after changes in Pure Music. I do control iTunes with the Remote app on my iPhone, and yes it does still work with the mini ethernet wired and the HOME WiFi up and running. I was not considering turning off my home WiFi. If I did, I would never post here or anywhere else again... Anyone who has noticed a significant improvement in sound with bluetooth and WiFi turned off in a mini server vs. with one or both turned on? :^)
