  1. Ok, got the wifi running a static ip.... whohoo I've another hdd booting windows every time I reboot. I need to format the windows partition and access the music-library... the search goes on. One step at a time. //KeLLoGsX Massy, As soon as I get to plug in the HRT dac I'll let you know :-)
  2. Hey Massi! I'm a happy camper right now. Installed Grub on part 1 and voyage on part 3. At work now and hooked it up to the lan and enjoying Adele on Bose.... marvellous. When I get home I'm going to connect it to an Hrt Streamer II+ and the wifi. I think the dac connection will be pretty straightforward (hopefully) but getting it on the wifi I'm not so sure about. If you have any knowledge regarding this please share. //Kellogsx
  3. I once again installed from scratch using the guide from Kubotayo. It started booting and then I got a Error code 18 from Grub. It seems to have something to do with the filesystem of the partition. Someone recommended making another partition for the bootloader (that would be sda1) and install voyage on the following partition sda2. Now I'll just figure out how to make another partition and put grub there. //Mans *edit* Finally got it. Read up on Error 18 and decided to go for custom partitioning. 1/Grub 128 mb, 2/Swap? 128 mb, 3/Voyage 1.8 gb, 4/whatever. Worked like a charm, now I just need to figure out the rest. //Mans
  4. Ok, still stuck. Re-did the installation and now I'm yet again stuck on "minimal bash-like line editing is supported......." grub> I've no clue where I'm going next! Anyone helpful around? Pleeease.... //Mans
  5. Thank you! I'll keep you posted and cry help if needed :-) //Mans
  6. Yep, two partitions available. the first disk was 4 gb (cf) and the second was 1 gb (pendrive). Using the /dev/sda1 during installation, I hope. I'll be going over it again tonight, from the beginning. Is there anything I should be doing differently or can I just do the steps again and it will format the CF correctly during installation? //Mans
  7. I'll check tonight when I get home. Is it something in particular you're looking for, perhaps I can remember something. //Mans
  8. Exactly what I'm doing: "Are you installing voyage on a CF card, and runnning the live from a pen drive? " What is the difference of using /dev/hda and /dev/sda? I ran fdisk -l and saw the disk called sda, therefor I used sda instead of hda. Right or wrong?
  9. Hello, Fast reply, thank you! I've gone through the 8-step program and after reboot all I get is a grub window stating: bla bla...bla grub> Then no more?
  10. Hey! I've had my caps for some time now with windows 7, everything working. But when I read about Voyage MPD I thought I'd give it a try and install it on a CF instead and loosing the noise and heat from the hdd. This is my very first go with Linux and I never thought it would be a breeze, but now I've come to the point were I have to say... I just don't get it! I've gone through the installation, booting from a Live cd (usb) with the help from: http://linux.voyage.hk/content/getting-started-live-cd-v07x http://kubotayo.web.fc2.com/voyagempd.html#install First question: At what point can I remove the the Live cd and boot from the CF? How is it suppose to look like when it starts? Sorry for the very newbie-questions but I'm stuck. //
  11. My plan was to either go with soundcard-analogue out-amp or usb-dac-amp. But the idea of giving me more options and perhaps securing future upgrades made me think that it would be a good idea to atleast make room for a soundcard and also give it a firewire output (not knowing why since I've never dealt with it but then again why not :-), but I've fitted a wifi-card in the minislot so I'll have to look if I can fit it elsewhere). Regarding soundcard I'll only be handling max 24/96, can you recommend any. I used to own a M-Audio Revolution and like it but but always had a hassle installing and upgrading it.
  12. I've been reading up a bit on the subject here and little bit everywhere and the usb dac seems to be the best option for now. Since I'm trying to do this as small and heatless as possible I guess the less internal parts I add the better. Since I'll only be playing flac/apple lossless and some occasional 24/96 the dac will be sufficient. Why can't you tolerate Itunes? I choose it because I will not use any other screen to browse the library but the Ipod touch with an itunes remote app. But if you know of any other good combo I'm up for suggestions. Yesterday I popped in to a local metal workshop and asked if they could help me out with my aluminum chassi. I was only going to do a sketch and they would help me.... great! The case will have the shape of a smaller version of Peachtree Audio Nova with a 4 mm alu. cover and wood front/back.
  13. I've had plans for many years on building a pc-based music server but never got around starting it until I found this place....thank you! Now I got the most vital parts but I'm still not sure if I should go with a good internal soundcard or a usb DAC (looking into the HRT Music Streamer II+), what do you have to say about it? Hardware & Software: Custom aluminum/wood chassi Intel D945GSEJT Mini-ITX motherboard HDD Samsung 2.5" 320 gb Ram 2gb Intel 5300 wifi link External AC/DC adapter Ipod touch (as remote) Itunes Windows 7 This is it so far, probably a lot of things I haven't thought of yet but I believe I'll get to the finish sooner or later
