1. I was thinking that there was an inherent flaw with USB audio such that it had to "sniff" every packet for authorization. (but maybe I'm misremembering?) Chris, I was making a statement regarding the relative benefit of USB over SPDIF, and if USB is truly a better interface, or if it was only for the computer that it worked better? If USB is better than SPDIF *inherently* (more bandwith, error correction, whatever) then why don't any CD players use a USB bus to connect to external DACs? That is essentially what HDMI is, right? It's a bus designed specifically for A/V use. BTW I did find 1 HDMI DAC http://www.ambery.com/2hddodtsdihd.html Since HDMI and it's brother Blu-Ray are the wave of the future, shouldn't we see some high-end players and DACs with them? Many computers are moving to HDMI as their A/V output. It would be very cool to have a unified standard that could work for home audio and computer audio (between the two, there is less and less distinction)
2. re #3. I wrote that backwards  it should read that SPDIF has much *higher* jitter than USB. I believe that is what you said, I was just curious for the reason why? And if it matters, why don't cd/dvd players use USB instead of SPDIF? Just curious. Thanks for the speedy reply
3. Hi all, I'm just joining the CA community after hearing Chris's talk at Century Sound in San Jose. I had a few questions brought on by his talk, on a few different subjects, and I was hoping you could point me to some resources. 1) It seems that firewire is superior to USB for sound, both of which are better than SPDIF, but I see very few Audiophile DACs with firewire. Why is that? 2) Most of the firewire DACS out there that have good specs are recording rigs like this one http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProFire610/ Does anyone have good experiences with these devices? They are cheaper and more easily available than most of the hi-fi DAC headphone amp combos 3) Chris mentioned that jitter for SPDIF computer outputs (my laptop does output SDIF) is much lower, I'm just curious to know why. So, it's a bit of a kitchen sink post, I'm just hoping to be pointed in the right direction (and please don't say "google" ) Later James
4. Thanks for coming to San Jose. I rely enjoyed meeting you and hearing some of the new tech in the computer audio world.

_James
