  1. SONOS' lawyers must be preparing to sue Apple over this feature. ;-)
  2. I upgraded to the new version and the player crashes when I click the vertical player option in preferences. I have a 13" MBP running Mountain Lion (fully updated). The only application that I have installed is Amarra. I am not sure what I am going to do: contact support, delete Amarra from my system, or wait for the next version. This is very frustrating.
  3. I try to support the B&M near me but the experience is always less than satisfying. For example, the last time I tried to negotiate a price on a particular piece of equipment, the salesman pulled my friend and me under the camera and wanted to sell me his personal equipment. When I told him I wanted to buy new, he walked away from us. I have spent a lot of money over the years with this particular store but I try to avoid them at all costs now. Besides that, they don't seem to get computer audio. I prefer to work with good people. For example, ALO Audio is not in my area but they are a B&M store in addition to an Internet store. Ken and team are very knowledgeable and professional making for an excellent buying experience. So I guess I am still supporting a B&M store at the end of the day. In addition, I enjoy buying from small equipment makers such as Red Wine Audio and Audiophilleo because they make terrific products and they are great people to do business with. I am very thankful for the Internet to help promote these types of businesses.
  4. I keep and store the CD's that I purchase. However, 75% of the time I buy music from an online stores such as Qobuz, Linn Records, Naim Label, or Hd Tracks. I always try to purchase Hi Res music files if possible. In the case where music is only available in Red Book format, I always evaulate the buying options. Sometimes it is more cost effective to buy physical media, either used or new. In that case I rip and store.
  5. Is to go Thunderbolt! It's too bad there aren't many TB solutions available yet. I am currently using the Lacie Big Little Drive (whatever it's called) with modes: remove the annoying loud fan and replace the drives with 750 GB Seagate Hybrid drives. BTW, I asked Oyen Digital sales folks when they are going to offer Thunderbolt solutions...and there was no replay.
  6. Thanks for the head's up Chris. I like this Anthony Wilson CD. I am going to download the CD tonight. This reminds me, I need to listen to some Michael Hedges too...
  7. It is possible to customize an Elite HTS chair with a lower back. It would be nice if companies like Elite HTS designed seating specifically for high end audio listening. I have a pair of HTS chairs installed in my home theater and they are very well built and comfortable.
  8. Another option for seating when listening to music is a home theater chair. Elite HTS provides a system for custom designing chairs to accommodate the requirements of their customers. I think the Batman cave chair is very cool. http://www.elitehometheaterseating.com/?gclid=CJ3W6bKzjK4CFQ5ihwodYGN84g
  9. The Klutz Design Chair is supposed to be the ultimate listening chair, but it is very expensive. http://www.klutzdesign.com/Ballerina-Sweetspot-listening-chair.html
  10. I use the Herman Miller Setu lounge and ottoman. I mostly listen to headphones but it would work fine for speaker listening too. http://store.hermanmiller.com/Products/Setu-Lounge-Chair
  11. We should really start including Thunderbolt as a recommended solution for external drives/displays now. Hopefully 2012 brings forth many more products supporting Thunderbolt, because it's great tech. If you have a 2011 or later Mac that supports Thunderbolt, consider using it for external HD's and displays. It's superior in every way, except cost.

    Amarra 2.3

The solution to make Amarra play perfectly with my environment was to re-image LION. This is a bit extreme but in my case my MBP is a dedicated music server. I do not know enough about the MAC OS to troubleshoot the problem with any debth and so in my case a quick re-image was necessary. After the re-image, Amarra plays perfectly. I recommend at least creating a second MAC OS partition for troubleshoot purposes. Make the installation minimal, meaning install the OS, install the OS updates, install Amarra, and install the DAC drivers if necessary.

    Amarra 2.3

I am happy to report that the basic functions of Amarra 2.3.3 are now working on my system after rebuilding the MBP. Working now: 192kHrz files playing Cached mode Preferences are remembered No app crashing I have been hammering the installation and it has been solid. I do not have any other third party applications installed and I have not installed the w4s drivers (running off of the Audiophilleo). I'll test gapless playback later. Now I am going to get back to rolling tubes in my Red Wine Corvina and Enjoying the Music!!!

    Amarra 2.3

I also reset my DAC, reinstalled in a different folder, tried different cables and USB ports, etc. I also reset iTunes preferences and tried running from a new profile. In addition to Amarra, I have Pure Music, Bit Perfect, Fidelia, and Audirvana Plus. I had a problem last night running Pure Music in Memory mode (same problem as Amarra). This problem happened after quitting Amarra. A reboot fixed this problem. Otherwise I have not had any problems with these other player Apps. I have not contacted Amarra directly yet.
