  1. The OMV shows which services are running, and mpd is one. On OMV the mpd plugin has instructions which advises to allow bind to any. The.conf file shows the service name is mpd, the host name is omv, which should be used on manual setting of mpad? Network discovery has about 7 services but not bonjour or zeroconf. I checked, zeroconf isn't supported by OMV.
  2. Thanks very much for your response. I set up mpad manually with the settings from.conf file. On OMV it's active as a service, but look here, I looked at the mpd.conf binder both 'any' and the local IP address return the same result. root@omv:~# /usr/bin/mpd --stdout --no-daemon --verbose Failed to bind to '[::]:6600': Address already in use Current version of conf user "mpd" log_file "/var/log/mpd/mpd.log" pid_file "/run/mpd/pid" db_file "/var/lib/mpd/tag_cache" state_file "/var/lib/mpd/state" sticker_file "/var/lib/mpd/sticker.sql" log_level "default" bind_to_address "any" port "6600" music_directory "/media/20cd1f58-9bc8-44b8-9490-5c549f7353d1/Music/" auto_update "yes" follow_outside_symlinks "yes" follow_inside_symlinks "yes" playlist_directory "/media/20cd1f58-9bc8-44b8-9490-5c549f7353d1/Music/" save_absolute_paths_in_playlists "no" volume_normalization "no" Linux omv 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.73-2+deb7u2 x86_64
  3. I'm setting up a server with OpenMediaVault and mpd is active, and the config file shows the correct music share. I recently purchased mpad for my iPad Air 2 and cannot get it to see the right music share. The OpenMediaVault server doesn't have wifi, I wonder if that is relevant, but it is on the same network. It can see the library on my Mac mini, but can't play it. There are no settings to deselect a music share, and the developer isn't replying to his forum questions. If anyone has a similar setup I'd love your opinion
  4. Hi I would be interested in the guide, but I dont want to subscribe to scribd. Has anyone uploaded it elsewhere? Thanks in advance Patricia
  5. I am setting up a G5 1.8 Dual Processor, and awaiting an OS. I have a choice of Tiger or Leopard, and as I will be using an Ergo via toslink or ethernet streamed into SB3 and DacMagic, I need advice on a flac player. Ayrewave is not supported by either OS, otherwise I would like to test it. I hope Apple PPCx64 is can cope with flac, otherwise I will run Yellowdog and VLC.
  6. I just bought a KRK Ergo, so when I have it set up I'll let you know how I got on. I use Squeezebox (SB Classic) and amp into floorstanders and powered subwoofer. I plan to use an adapter TRS to 2 phono. My sub currently has a high level speaker connection to the amplifier, so I think the Ergo will see it as a 2.0 system. I do have phono inputs on the REL also, which I guess would need to be directly connected to the Ergo to get it to operate in a 2.1 system mode. I really like the features of the Ergo - headphone amp, dac and room correction in one device. If anyone can give some advice on setup I would appreciate it.
  7. The Squeezebox is going to remain, as we have not one but two PCs configured as servers; its simpler for me and my husband to manage our music this way. Or more complicated technically, but simpler on a human level! If any component of the system was to go it would be the dacmagic. I like the SB3. Great screen and responsive remote; if I could get the file handling improvements of the Touch without the changed form factor I would upgrade. From what I read, the dac in the touch isnt far removed in quality from the Touch so unless I drop the dacmagic no reason to buy it based on the dac. I have been moving the speakers about and have heard a difference. I also put plugs into the back of the speakers - not sure about this yet. I use toslink cable between Revo > SB and coax SB3 > Dacmagic.
  8. This comment in Feb 2010, and no update on manufacturer's site, seems to confirm no driver for linux has been provided. http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/Are-you-waiting-Linux-driver-m2tech-hiface-device So unless I drop linux in favour of Windows I wont be trying the Hiface. Thanks for the advice anyway
  9. No long runs, just hoping for better sound with a different cable. Is the Hiface intended to connect USB from Revo to the squeezebox? I checked the M2Tech website which says that a linux driver will soon be available. Or is the ALSA driver update suitable? Of course the squeezebox is the limiting factor here as it cannot cope with music above 24/48 Update - is anyone else running the Hiface/squeezebox/dacmagic combo? If dacmagic and Hiface was substituted for a cheap dac such as HRT music streamer £139, would this cope better or worse with streaming flac lossless from Vortexbox (fedora 11)? Thanks
  10. It sounded too good to be true, and it was! Thanks for that. I suspect that I can get improvements by moving the furniture and speakers, before modding the dac.
  11. I would like some advice on whether I can improve the sound of the Dacmagic without an expensive mod. I am unsure whether DAC was the right forum, but as its a question of interconnects please move if there is a better section. I use Classic Squeezebox, Vortexbox in a Revo Aspire; currently the CA Dacmagic is connected with shielded RCA cable to the Talk Electronic amp. The improvement I first experienced in hearing the dacmagic has faded, and I want to cheaply upgrade if possible. I read on avforums that changing the op amps to dual bursons (£90 UK) can help, and this was challenged on the basis that it assumed that one used unbalanced connections. The sound degradation produced by the stock op amp does not apply to balanced connections. Is this true? If you need to use an unbalanced connection as I do, can I benefit by using an XLR/RCA cable? Avforum members gave a link re considerations of how to build such a cable. http://www.rane.com/note151.html Any thoughts?
  12. I have been looking for an android tablet for some time now, and I plan on using one to read pdf and manga on. I sometimes use ipeng on my ipod touch to manage the Vortexbox squeezebox, but by the time it connects wirelessly I could have already changed the playlist with the squeezebox IR remote. I wouldnt choose a wireless device for that reason, but others wil have their own view. Slatedroid is an enthusiast site where these devices have been reviewed, rooted and new roms developed that brings out the best of the hardware. As you noticed the Moonse has USB OTG, so could conceivably serve music to a dac, or as a wireless controller of another server. There are hardware issues however - at that price getting a decent slate is a bit of a crapshoot - there may be no warranty offered by the manufacturer, or the cost of postage both ways so prohibitive that you just accept the failed unit. I am not sure if this applies to merimobiles which has a good rep on the slatedroid site. Even if it is a "good" unit, the build quality is reported to be poor relative to an ipad, or to another chinese slate the Witstech A81E. The first version of this device had several constraints - only one button so unusable in android, unstable wireless and yet it has its fans as it felt solid, had a good chip and was pretty fast for a chinese slate of November 2009 vintage - before the ipad was launched. The second iteration has a user removable battery, more hardware buttons. I dont believe the screen resolution will be up to the ipad, so I am not biting. Fuller reviews will be along shortly. By version 4 it should be a really good device. The link below will have videos over the next few days showing what the latest version is capable of. http://www.shanzai.com/index.php/bandit-gadgets/tablets/1360-first-look-a81-sub-usd-200-mountable-tablet-sports-removable-battery-android-21-cortex-8-processor-and-features-galore
