  1. ... some of their models are very pricey ... others less so someone on here has a pair ....
  2. I've read a bit on these and I like the following: 1. Use of top shelf Scan Speak or SEAS drivers 2. Matched drivers as applicable 3. Excellent cabinetry with heft and weight Anyone heard 'em?
  3. This line of speakers caught my eye. Does anyone have any experience with them? Thanks.
  4. I tried myrtle wood blocks under components once ... zero difference. What /is/ helpful are 4 Herbie's tenderfeet under the Mini ... they dampen vibration and increase airflow under the device. There's probably no SQ difference, but the anti-vibration helps take some stress off the computer. PS, the tenderfeet are inexpensive.
  5. I'm not condemning all products made in China; nor am I saying that all Emotiva products are of questionable quality. What I am saying is that they have had serious problems with certain of their products, IIRC, one or more of their DACs ... about which there were various complaints. That said, they /do/ have good customer service, very competitive prices, and a strong return policy and warranty. If the OP wishes to try them out, great and if he loves their gear, even better. There's certainly nothing wrong with that.
  6. ... there's a lot of great sounding music at 44.1/16 ... much of it, in fact, sounds as good or better than "hi-rez" or what is sold as "hi-rez." Anyway, one nice thing about separates is that we can upgrade a DAC, for example, to take advantage of new SR, etc. if and when it makes sense to do so.
  7. ... I find it really depends on the recording For example, I just listened to Tal Wilkenfeld's Transformation at 70 db and thought it sounded just right. Now, I'm listening to Satriani and (no surprise) I've cranked him up to 88db, which sounds too just right... Never a dull moment searching for the sound you like :-)
  8. ... has surfaced several times on this forum. I DL'd the Smithereens Play Tommy 96/24 and find it very disappointing. In light of my experience and reading others', I have decided not to DL any more HD Tracks material. You might try Linn Records ... especially the Studio Master recordings (192/24). They are pricey but sound great.
  9. Welcome back. FWIW, my 2 cents: 1. Return all the stuff to Crutchfield. THIS SHOULD BE FUN, NOT STRESSFUL OR HIGH PRESSURE 2. Audition (listen) to a variety of gear and research it. TAKE YOUR TIME 3. Don't latch on to any particular speaker, Maggies or otherwise. KEEP AN OPEN MIND 4. Emotiva -- a. The positive: Good customer service; generous return policy; low cost (they sell direct) b. The negative: All gear built in China and of questionable quality. Hope that helps. Steve
  10. ... because, according to the OP, today's the deadline by which he must return his gear to Crutchfield ... OH, THE SUSPENSE!
  11. ... how this thread, which began as a cry for help from someone with PSB speakers, has morphed into a Maggie-fest which has long lost any semblance of advice for the OP ... Where /is/ the OP anyway? LOL
  12. Well it's finally "D-Day." After dozens of posts, a myriad of suggestions and proposed "cures," and no doubt, immense soul-searching ... does the gear stay or go?
  13. check out that DAC... 8 chip (multi-bit) DAC
  14. Make contact with DigiPete on this site ... he has the Genelec top of the line
  15. This may sound harsh but perhaps the easiest and best thing for you to do at this point is simply to return everything for a full refund and use what you had previously for the time being. In the interim, take more time to research and audition gear without the pressure of needing to make a decision by a certain deadline. If you are not delighted with the new gear, then why keep it? It's apparently not going to get much better and then you'll be stuck with it. At least, if you return it you'll take the pressure off yourself. Hope that helps. Regards, Steve
