  1. Just tried to order Lumin L1 5TB from my local Danish dealer, bur he informs me that it is currently unavailable due to IC supply issues, with no indication of when it will be back in stock. I have recently purchased U2 Mini and looked forward to putting it all together. wklie - Any info?
  2. Zuill Bailey performs on an instrument from 1693 (Octave Records, recorded in DSD). This is my personal favorite version, followed closely by David Watkins.
  3. Jud, which Purifi module does your amp use: the Purifi 1ET400A or the more recent Purifi 1ET7040SA? I own the March Audio P451 with 1ET400A and am considering upgrading to their P501 with the new 1ET7040SA?
  4. I am in Denmark and am listening to it right now via Quobuz at 2:20 P.M. European Standard Time.
  5. I usually carry Muddy Waters Folk Singer in three versions. SACD from Analogue Productions CAPB 1483 SA Hirez from Classic Records CHDD 2008, 24/96 on one side, 24/192 on the other. This usually provides a consistent, reliable basis for comparison of formats and upsamling.
  6. This just in direct from Purifi re the new module: “Hopefully early in the new year. But it’s difficult to say for sure due to the ongoing component scarcity situation.”
  7. I have just been informed by Australian March Audio that everyone is still waiting for Purifi to actually start mass production of the new module, which should be “very soon.” Al Jones
  8. At the risk of moving way off topic, I have just been informed by March Audio that everyone is still waiting for Purifi to actually start mass production of the new module, which should be “very soon.”
  9. Yes, I see what you mean. The Perlisten S7t as reviewed in Stereophile are 18k per pair in high gloss black or white and 20k for custom wood finishes. My S5m are 13k per pair in black or white. There’s a reason I waited until I was nearly 70, before making this investment. My amps are a pair of Australian March Audio P451 Purifi monoblock Power Output 2 Ohms/450 W 4 Ohms/425 W 8 Ohms/227 W Current Output - 25 Amps
  10. I have had the great pleasure of a long life as a music lover and record collector and, by necessity, as an afficionado of the underlying playback technology. My passion for music was such that, while living as an American in Denmark, I managed to hustle a full-time gig as a deejay on national Danish radio - brodcasting in Danish - after a few years spent writing about music and audio for the two leading Danish audio journals, HiFi & Elektronik and High Fidelity, both now long since defunct. My main audio interest has always been loudspeakers, particularly a curiosity about the correlation between the applied technology and the resulting sound quality. About two months ago, I acquired what I knew would probably be my endgame speakers, both because I am now living on a fixed income and because the technology that they represented just seemed to make perfect sense. The speakers are Perlisten S5M monitors, three-way, capable of sealed or bass-reflex operation. Recently, Stereophile, December 2021, published Kalman Rubinson’s review of the S5M’s larger sibling, the floorstanding S7t, with the uncharacteristically exuberant front cover headline: “Perlisten: New speaker jumps to the head of the line.” Basically, it praised everything that had attracted me to the brand, including the Directivity Pattern Control Array, consisting of a 1.1” Berylium tweeter mounted in a waveguide with dual 1.1” midranges to restrict floor and celing vertical reflections and extensive measurements using Klippel Near-field Scanning. My experience so far with the smaller S5M in High Gloss white has been truly transformative. I played the Bach cello suites in recent versions by Zuill Bailey and David Watkin. The differences were immediately clear with the added depth and spaciousness of Bailey making for a more appealing interpretation. To hear Brian Bromberg on Wood play Come Together solo on a 300-year old bass is truly invigorating as he snaps, slaps and claps the body of the instrument. His solo Star Spangled Banner brings to mind Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock without being in any way derivative or inferior. A Bach collection played on marimba by Kuniko, a Japanese percussionist, may strike many as a novelty, but this rich, resonant recording from an Estonian church is a strong addition to the catalogue of Bach transcriptions. Moving to more conventional repertore, Chris Jones’ “No Sanctuary Here” is a warm, intense test of resolution with fine bass attack. Chantal Chamberlain’s take on the classic “I Put a Spell on You” features her sultry, soulful voice well to the fore with a distinctive, deep echo. I could go on ad infinitum, but I will wrap up by referring you to Daniel Lanois’ recent production of Leonard Cohen’s recitation of his poem, Torn Again, with steel guitar and orchestral accompaniment with fulsome, vibrant tonality, taking a very familiar voice to new places. It may seem like hyperbole, but I can sincerely echo the final words of Kalman Rubinson’s Stereophile review: “New company, new speaker, new world”.
  11. The English Electric 8Switch retails for £450. https://www.the-ear.net/review-hardware/english-electric-8switch-network-switch
  12. I’ve moved on from USB storage to internal HDD in a Small Green Computer. The only USB in my system is a Mad Scientist Heretical with ground switches at both ends between my Sonore Signature Rendu SE and Magma/SOtM modified Singxer. Once signal is established, I disconnect the ground switch at both ends.
  13. Thanks for the offers, but Acoustic Portrait responded quickly with new download links. They recommend downloading these long tracks one at a time and that helps. Track 1 16 min Track 2 34 min Track 3 11 min
  14. Not having much success with https://acousticportrait.com/product/raag-bhageshri/ First, Paypal failed, then it worked after the shop “made some configuration changes in consultation with Paypal.” Then, only one of three tracks downloaded. The others failed after a long wait and could no longer be attempted after code “403 Forbidden.”
