  1. Hi guys, Your wish for an option to toggle the cover art in Now Playing is noted. I will try to include that in the next version. Also, I realize that there has been a lot of redesign and changes from version to version. This is because I have never been quite happy about the overall layout and feel of the app. There wont be any major changes for a long while now. I will now concentrate more on smaller additions like new features that are made possible by the new web service in JRMC 18. It`s impossible to please everyone when designing an app. Most people seem happy about the new "Now playing" look, but not all. I would just like to point out that you can view the full size cover art by tapping it. I am currently working on some inline help as well as a new help section on the JRemote website. As more options are added, the need for more instructions are needed. Btw, there is a small update available in the app store right now that fixes a couple of bugs from the 2.15 release.
  2. Hi Guys, I will investigate the issue, and I do believe its related to the search window only. I think JRMC accepts a sort parameter when playing search results. Will get back to you.
  3. You can shuffle all your tracks if you create a view in JRMC where you basically list all your tracks. Then in JRemote you can either push/hold on a track do display the add mode view and select shuffle all, or press shuffle in the top right corner(if in a file view). Beware that if you have thousands of files, it may take a while to download the whole playlist to the device.
  4. Hi music matters, are you using the iphone or ipad version? On the iPad version you have the possibility to display any list as thumbnails. But i guess what you are referring to is having tracks group into albums. You can customize any view inside JRMC, by going to tools > options > advanced > customize views for.. Regarding cover art, JRemote will crop the image to fit within the designated area. This will change soon as there are more changes coming to the now playing window. Regarding black background on the now playing window, it will fit better soon on the iPad version. On the iPhone version, I think i will change it back.
  5. Hi guys, I`m not sure if JRemote will work out of the box. As far as I can tell the initial release will only support some of the features of the windows version. If there are major differences between the versions I will make a mac specific version, but hopefully there are enough similarities that only a few changes are needed. I will keep a close eye on future development on the mac version. BTW, the next version of JRemote will be released in a few days. The iPad version features a vastly improved UI. In addition to this there are countless optimizations and bug fixes, as well as mp4 movies streaming support.
  6. hifitubes, I`m not sure what you mean when you say control other DLNA devices. I can for example control all my squeezebox devices from JRemote, they appear as separate zones. Regarding auth errors, that is most likely a problem on your end. I`ve had a few users with similar problems, but they have all been able to connect after checking firewalls etc. Steveoat, just select the zone called "jplay" that should appear after you have installed the jplay plugin. You can then control JRMC as usual.
  7. Hi Chris. This is unfortunately a bug that slipped through in this latest version. Actually, the tracks are added, but the "now playing" list is not reloaded until one of the added tracks start playing. As you mentioned, this only applies to the press and hold menu. Also, for your first answer, yes, the three first icons are for single tracks, the rest is for the whole list. I will issue a new update later today that fixes this bug and a couple of other small issues. As a bonus you can now select streaming quality up to 320 Kbps. Please note that Apple can take several days, up to a week to approve an app.
  8. Priaptor: This is not possible unless you manage to setup such behaviour in JRMC under "Customize views for gizmo etc". merk54: On the latest version you can set a default action when you click a track. Its located at the top left next to the back button. If you choose "add to playlist" or "add all to playlist" here, you never have to worry about playlist being wiped. madfloyd: When you click a metadata value you are supposed to be tranfered to a search view, strange that it does not work for you. Could be that you are using JRMC 16 or earlier, since the new search features only work in JRMC 17.I need to add a warning about this in the next update.
  9. Hi Floyd, here is my response to your detailed evaluation of the app. I really appreciate feedback like yours, sorry for the late reply. 1) When I choose an album, it shows me all the tracks. I select one to start playing. There is no indication of what song is playing on this screen. I have to go to the Now Playing to see that. In the Now Playing screen you highlight the track number (in the left margin). However, you don't do this in the previous screen where there is the exact same margin (i.e. the very same technique would work). I assume this is a bug. If it's not, consider it a must have feature request. :-) This is not a bug, as it was never implemented. However, I see that this would be useful, so I will add it for the next version. 2) The right side of the Now Playing screen gets out of sync if it's set on Metadata or Artist and you choose different songs to play (I'm talking a different artist/album). You have to toggle the Metadata off then on again. It would be a lot nicer if it just refreshed itself. This is actually by design. Imagine that you are in the middle of reading a long artist bio, and the metadata suddenly refreshes to the next track in the playlist. 3) It would be nice if JRemote remembered which tab of the Metadata I last left it in (Metadata vs Artist). Reason: I love the artist feature and use it more than the Metadata and would prefer to not have to do the extra navigation each time (I bounce around music a LOT :-)). I can implement this as a setting. 4) I also think it would be nice if the MetaData panel took the same amount of space as the album art instead of going all the way to the bottom and covering up the volume. I use the volume a lot, which means if I'm reading an Artist bio, I have to toggle the Metadata off, adjust volume, then hit MetaData (and then hit Artist again). I understand, that was actually the initial implementation. However, I changed it because the space felt limited when in landscape mode. If others have a strong opinion on this I would be happy to change it. 5) I can't tell you how I would LOVE it if I could save playlists from JRemote. It seems I can create them, but not save. I hate spending time at the computer making playlists. It's much more enjoyable and effective sitting on the couch listening to music and creating one. I agree that this would be a very nice feature to have. I can't promise anything yet though, as i have not done any research on how to do it. Its certainly not supported by JRivers web service. Bugs: a) I can navigate away from the Now Playing screen, check out some other albums etc and then go back to the Now Playing screen and the star rating is no longer present. I will look into it. I have gotten JRemote into a state where it wouldn't load up album art as I scrolled around. That may be possible, I assume you were still connected to JRiver? Handling cover art in the best possible manner is an ongoing project. I made some strides in the last version, but it can always be improved. c) I have gotten JRemote to crash once (all in all it's pretty darn stable). I fixed a memory leak yesterday that has been there from the start. It will crash the app after extended use. Nice to have found it because its bothered me for some time.
  10. Dummy, what version of JRMC are you using? The new search may require a later version of JRMC. ignatz22: Thats not good. Could you try to delete JRemote from your phone and then redownload.
  11. Hi guys, I would not really recommend downloading that many files at once. While you may be able to do the actual download, parsing that many files on the device is very processor intensive and time consuming. JRemote in its current state is not really optimized for it, since as I mentioned everything is first downloaded and then parsed. I will make a better solution for this in the future, where the data is streamed and displayed as they arrive. This will of course add some complexity and is not something that can be added quickly. I would also like to comment on the speed of image display. This is also very dependent on the speed of your home network as well as the speed of the host computer. A stock CAPS machine will not perform as well as a computer with an i5 or i7 processor. This is because JRMC is resizing the images before they are sent across the network. I think i may add an option to use low-res cover art for the iPad retina. While it does look a lot better, I personally prefer the speed of the iPad2. Lower res images would provide the same performance on the new iPad.
  12. Hi guys, sorry for the late replies, I have been really busy with the latest version lately. I personally think this a big improvement from the current version. It was sent to apple for review 2 minutes ago, should be out in a few days. Here are some of the new features/changes: - iPad full retina support - New and better search using JRiver`s fuzzy search - Faster image download - Images are now downloaded and displayed while scrolling - Toggle sorting on indexed lists - Choose default playmode - Realtime volume slider with display - Cancel loading of large lists - Search metadata values by clicking on value Fixes: - Some animations were slow on iPad retina displays - Mutiple optimizations and code changes to improve performance and stability - Connection issues after first attempt failed. The thumbnail display on the ipad2 is now super fast. The iPad3 version is still fast, but remember that every cover art needs to be downloaded as a 300*300 image. There are 24 of those images on a single screen, so it is a bit slower. Image downloading and processing is now down on multiple threads, so that does help a lot. I have removed the "preload images" feature in this version as its no longer needed as images are now displayed while scrolling. The main reason is that preloading was problematic. If the number of images was higher that the image cache allowed, some images would still miss cover after preloading. I will read all your comments and suggestions later, but I need a break right now.
  13. The current version of JRemote crashes in iOS 5.1. I have still have no idea why, since there should be no breaking changes in this update. Anyway, the latest version was submitted for approval shortly after it was discovered. Its working just fine with iOS 5.1. I also notified Apple of the urgency of this update. So far it has not yet been approved, but hopefully it will be soon. Sorry for the trouble this has caused those that have upgraded. Also notice that I had to release this version a bit prematurely. I have since discovered some stability issues, just so you know. I am now working on a new small release that will mainly be bugfixes etc. As well as retina support for iPad 3.
  14. Regarding streaming to your device. That is my top priority after the next release. I have started experimenting with streaming from JRiver. It would be easy to just launch the movie/track in a webbrowser view, but I really want it integrated inside the program. That way you could basically select your device as a "zone" and use the regular controls for playback. Not sure how this will turn out yet, will keep you updated.
  15. Hi guys, The next version includes a metadata view that is accessible from the track list and "playing now" views. From here you can view/set rating, access last.fm artist/album info and see all metatags in a scrollable list. Regarding "album artist" tag, how would you guys want this implemented. Do you want it listed as a subtitle under the track name? Regarding sorting etc, that must be configured in JRiver. I can only display it.
