i was just reading through the article here on CA regarding ripping audio of DVD's. has there been an update for a good ripper for mac users? i saw dvd audio extractor but understand that it is windows only. unfortunately i dont have parallels installed. ideas? thanks. ed

as a noob, i had a few questions about the audio settings of this excellent player. i am using it on an intel unibody macbook with 4GB ram. what settings do i use for audio system? i have enabled exclusive access mode. is this the same as hog mode? i also checked max I/O buffer size. and i placed the maximum memory allocated for tracks pre-load (3072 MB). as for audio filters, I am using apple core audio (as opposed to SRC libsamplerate). i tried checking out if the program had a help file but no cigar. i did not notice a dip in performance of the macbook with these settings. am just not sure if my settings are correct and what effect changing the settings would have on the computer, the software and audio playback. thanks very much. and again, my music never seemed to sound as good as it sounds from audirvana! ed

thanks for the excellent program. i am still a newbie, but among my players now, my music sounds best using your software. just out of curiosity, any chance for a remote app? hahaha happy new year! ed

could not have done it without you guys. great site! wgscott, i am probably gonna stay put on this cable for now. my next project is a mac mini...or a squeezebox touch (less expensive). i just want to stream 24/96 to the nova. all my other files, im happy streaming via airport express. thanks again everyone!

thanks for the input wgscott. i probably will be unable to tell the diff between a 24/48 vs 24/96 sample as well. so you're right. if i cant troubleshoot it, i will probably live with 24/48. it just bugs me that i cant get the equipment to function right (like a true techno geek!). cheers. e

thanks mwheelerk. it actually works well in itunes (which doesnt natively play flac files anyways). so for my flacs, i use vlc or audirvana. but i did try your suggestion of closing down and restarting. still no luck

i see. but with your system now, the abovementioned cable is able to handle 24/96 right? how often do you have to reset audio-midi? i remember from your earlier posts that you werent to happy with the usb-spdif hiface option. any reason why? i am thinking of looking into this device (or the logitech squeezebox touch) as another option, should all this cable madness fail! but you are giving me hope. and that is good. thanks. ed

thanks wgscott. i ordered that already. it shipped today. hope to have it on my doorstep soon. in the interim, i know this shop in midtown that has similar cables. i just want to try it out. it is truly driving me nuts. on a different note, shouldnt the "apple" monster mini-toslink cable (http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Airport-Express-Connection-Monster/dp/B0002GDQZI) be a 'good' quality one? i am hoping that maybe i didnt take care of that cable from before that it is malfunctioning a bit now? if the cable is the problem (i.e. inferior quality), will it still be able to output 24/48, and just have problems with the 24/96? as i said, it is driving me nuts. hahaha. thanks again. ed

still no cigar... tried aligning the cable as best i could but still get only popping sounds from both opt 1 and opt 2 on the nova. 24/48 configuration works. just not the 24/96. happens on both vlc media player and audirvana. i will try a new mini-optical cable tomorrow. if that doesnt work, then i will see if it is the NOVA unit that is faulty. i hope not. if anybody has any other ideas, please let me know. thanks. ed
