    CMP and CPlay

Ok olive, will have a look tomorrow. The computer equivalent of fumbling in the dark you could call it! Can I thank you for your time, help and patience? When you get a chance, would you be able to cast a quick eye over my second to last post, ie in reference to your suggestion to NOT use the dvd player in the machine but rather the seperate cdp? None-the-less, we should stick with this problem first, worry about foobar finding the cdp (or these files on the computer) so I can utilise the convolver later. cheers, will let you know (at least hopefully this thread may be of use to others later in time)

    CMP and CPlay

****************************************************** cicsMemoryPlayer.pth is in the CMP directory. There should also be a backup copy in the cPlay directory. Check whether the backup copy points to cPlay (it should) in which case you can use the backup to replace the file in the CMP directory. ******************************************************* I compared the two pth files, one in cmp and the one in cplay. The one in cmp said (as we know) foobar, the one in cplay-the backup you mentioned-said cplay. (I think that's what happened, I was flying blind if you follow) so I took the one from cmp and put it on the desktop, and the one from cplay and put that it cmp folder. Had a 'scary' ''want to replace?'', took the gamble and said 'yes', and now cplay pops up and starts from cmp! So you did it brother! Thank you very much. Now how to get foobar to play from cdp (so can use convolver if needed) and if you have the inclination, an explanation of why not to use the dvd player in the machine. Anyway, and I really mean it, thank you for your help and time, even if the thread ends here. Just for a final check, cplay still works if I click on that, so all good. cheers, and a big thanks smiley should go in here >....< Hope to get that further explanation, but no biggie if not. ciao!

    CMP and CPlay

Alright, call me an idiot. I reloaded foobar on to the server from the stick. The exe WAS in the folder I loaded over to the server. It just was not 'written' as exe, it was in fact the foobar symbol. Duh. It came up as exe when I hovered the mouse over it. Double duh. So it is there. Dealing with foobar first, when I go to a file and load it the error message is 'device not found (0x88780078)' When I open audio cd I get the same message (dvd player whirring away tho). CPlay works fine, as it always has. Click on cmp, it seems to come up as the 'manual' says, tho a few things are different. The list of ripped albums that cplay happily plays comes up. I click on one and foobar pops up with the same error message as above, device not found. This is different than last night when foobar was not on the machine. The CMP diagnostics is now different from above, but this is the same Player started task=#M'cprogram filesfoobar 2000foobar 2000 exe'%C Then it is different from above it now says THREAD ID=0x00000530 (1328) base priority =24 Delay priority=0 Thread priority=0 User0000 Kernel0000UI Thread (not critical) Affinity before 0x00000003 after 0x00000001 ==>player exited. Not that I have much insight of course, but a few things jump out at me. CMP seems to be looking for foobar to be the player ((Player started task=#M'cprogram filesfoobar 2000foobar 2000 exe'%C )). Now that I have foobar on the machine, at least foobar does pop up. It is another problem why it does not play tho! So it seems to me that CMP should be looking for Cplay rather than foobar??? ((eg, the command should be something like task=#M cprogram filescplaycplay exe%C))...???? Am I starting to get on the right track?? IF that is what the command should be, I dunno why it is not there. I assume what was downloaded from cicsplay was the correct set up, I know for a fact I would not have changed anything!! AND, it looks like we are >< close to having foobar work too, just got to find out why it cannot be located. So a bit of extra data now. hope that helps and makes sense.

    CMP and CPlay

Hello to you Olive....... Yeah, just checked that cplay is in program files. I knew it would be, maybe I did not make myself clear, but I can and do use cplay to play my files. Maybe I will cut and paste that other post I mentioned, yep, here it is ................................................................... Cmp / Cplay They are meant to work together, Cmp replaces Windows explorer to minimize windows process running in the background. Cplay is the player; Cplay can work by it self but is better with Cmp. Cmp can also be used with Foobar and Winamp as well as some other players. This is a very basic description; there is a ton of info on Audio Asylum but is rather spread out and a bit of a challenge to pull it all together. Files are loaded through Cmp which you have to direct it to where the files are stored. Start Cmp Click on Cmp icon in lower left hand corner, go to add in upper RH corner and select directory where the files with cues are stored. You should now see a list in Cmp of music files that have cue sheets. Click on a file and Cplay should load automatically from there with the selected file. Be sure to deselect ram load in settings since is meant to be used if using another player other than Cplay. ( will load file twice in Ram if using Cplay) Any cue file created by Exact copy or converted to either flac or Wav with cue sheet in Foobar will read fine. Foobar is easiest way to covert Flac to wav or flac with cue sheet. Just using Cmp and Cplay without any hardware or further windows optimizations should give better sound than most other players. Sure did in my system. That was from this thread http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/Cmp-and-Cplay .................................................................... I am a bit unsure quite what he meant by 'click on the cmp icon bottom left', I have no cmp icon bottom left. I had a look at the wordpad note on the path, it is there in the same folder as cplay. If I am reading it correctly, it expects cplay to be in 'c:program filescics PlaycicsPlay.exe', and zI can see cplayexe in program files in a cplay folder. (gotta remember I am 'not into computers', so hopefully I am giving you what you need to know.) Ohh, thought I should say that the 'main' reason I am asking here is that at least this forum format is easier to follow, start at the beginning and read through. For the life of me, I cannot work out the forum format at audio asylum!! Just seems to go all over the place! And, this being s dedicated computer music forum, you guys should be on top of it anyway. Hope that is not offensive in anyway to anybody!! haha. Maybe the simplest solution would be to reload the whole thing?? For example, I also want to use foobar in the server. I currently use a seperate cdp to play music I have not ripped, and change input on the preamp. It suddenly dawned on me to use the dvd drive already built into the server, and so assumed I'd need to run software (like foobar) that can handle the interface, as WMP is disabled in the CMP machine. AND, a further assumption is that they chose foobar due to it's low power requirements (as the CMP m/c has been stripped right back and no fans etc etc). I might just add that the server itself is so quiet that the noisiest thing ion there was the dvd drive itself!, so for the last year or so I disconnected it entirely. Obviously I have to hook it back in and hope the music drowns out the whirring noise...are they all that noisy?? For whatever reason I have never been able to get cmp to do anything, and always used cplay directly. Foobar also does not work, I have been trying to download it onto my home computer (this one), pout it oin a stick and transfer it across to the server. That does not seem to work, I cannot get the setup wizard to work on the server, presumably because it has already been set up before transferring? (cannot find the foobar exe or setup once I have transferred it to the server) Maybe that means I need to download directly on to the server and do the setup on line? As I said in my first post, we'll cross that bridge later, for now hopefully it is a simple solution to get cmp to fire up cplay. (again, does it really matter?? I could simply continue to go directly to CMP, but that post I quoted tends to suggest otherwise)

    CMP and CPlay

I have been using CPlay for a while now, have never managed to get CMP working. There was a thread on here which seemed to suggest that CPlay should automatically start when you choose the file in CmP. Can find it if required. I can see the files in CMP, click on them and it seems to load (the blue squares load across the bottom) then nothing. Being not a computer guy, I have always just used cplay. I switched on diagnostics in CMP and the message tends to give a hint of what is wrong. It says error player thread handle is NULL (says it twice, once for each channel??) So, is there an easy fix?? Is it even important?(ie should I just continue to use cplay and forget cmp??) I do have another question I'd like to cover later. I want to use foobar to play cd from the dvd drive in the player (the zalman case) that does not work either, and I see from the documentation that foobar SHOULD work with it.(I want to try using the dsp plugins available with foobar) The good news is that foobar obviously does not use too much resources to work with the stripped down windows that cmp and cplay use. Anyway, first things first, thanks in advance to any out there who may be able to help.
