1. Hi Mayhem, Any update on this project? Been a very interesting read to this point! Thanks!
2. Yes - interested! Something smaller than a 10" in a cube would be much easier to live with under my desk.......
3. I'm a big fan of Amused to Death by Roger Waters.
4. Love the Dead Souls cover from NIN..... awesome, and I love Joy Division Other covers - Ziggy Stardust by Bauhaus, The Passenger by Siouxie, and a punk favorite - 99 Red Balloons by 7 Seconds Last one would be Tears of a Clown by The English Beat - great cover of an old Smoky Robinson and the Miracles song!
5. I really like the simplicity and single purpose of the CAPS design! I like the idea of a Linux based CAPS........
6. I would go the used route! Taking a quick look through audiogon you could get the ZU Essence speakers with a simaudio moon i-5 integrated and perhaps a peachtree dac-it or schiit bifrost. That would end up right around $5k (current asking prices) and be a pretty nice system.
7. Not a problem - I was essentially agreeing with Paul's post about comparing their USB interface to making a meal with McDonalds Hamburgers. Under the Bifrost product page there is a great write up on it - but in their FAQ's page they compare USB to McDonalds Hamburgers..... So I was agreeing that information like that could cast that seed of doubt into some peoples minds when they are specifically looking for a USB DAC as they've implied that its not their "best" interface. Not complaining or saying it's Schiity.... just saying that their own Marketing Materials are perhaps conveying the wrong message??
8. What I posted was a direct quote from the "product" page - not the FAQ.... Oh well - I am curious to give it a listen anyways! Guess I didn't snoop around their site enough!!! I personally like their sense of humor - but agree that it could definitely keep people away from their product!! Especially those looking specifically for USB. Maybe they just need to get their Schiit together!
9. It appears that they are listening - just read this on the website..... "USB 2.0, 24/192, Async, Completely Buzzword Compliant Have high-res music? No problem. Bifrost offers a full range of inputs: Coaxial and optical SPDIF, as well as USB. Bifrost's USB is one of the most advanced implementations available today, featuring a high-speed USB 2.0 interface (not 1.1) and asynchronous data transfer to 24/192, based on the C-Media CM6631 USB receiver. No drivers are required for Macs, and Windows drivers will are downloadable for Windows 7, Vista, and XP." No more funny comments about hamburgers and such.....
10. OK - so I'll keep it to 10 - in no real order Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon The Clash - London Calling The Who - who's next New Order - substance The Cure - wish The Cure - disintigration Moody Blues - Days of Future Past Pet Shop Boys - Behavior Roger Waters - Amused to Death Depeche Mode - Violator Dang it - 10 is tough - I had to leave out the English Beat - What is Beat - great album....
11. Chris, Any news on getting one to review? This is interesting! I'd love to see a shootout type comparisson between several DAC's in the 1500-2000 range.... This one, w4s dac2 etc.... Thanks for pointing it out and all your great work on this site! Hoover
12. Some Love and Rockets - 7th dream of a teenage heaven has some pretty intense stuff..... Rogers Solo stuff too - Amused to Death is pretty good..... The Cure has some pretty trippy stuff on Kiss Me and Wish.....
13. Hey Chris,
Thanks for the review on the QNAP NAS. Hopefully I'm not the only one who's looked at all these options on the internet and wondered what the differences actually are and which ones actually perform as advertised! I am very interested in your upcoming review of the Synology NAS as that is one I was looking at purchasing. Thanks for steering me clear of this one!

Todd
