  4. Sorry double posts, pls remove it Chris, Thanks for your reply and yes CD player with H/D installed is fun to use. I have a small NAS (QNAP TS-109) and don't you think that if for personal use (1:00am), is it nice to just power up your CD / HD Player with just the headphone amp on then your fav. tracks is ready. I hope a device which can rip the disc to its internal harddisk or with a USB connection that can transfer your wav files from computer to it. Humm... Starting to look at those Korea product something like Media server with built in Audio out ... stuff like that. P.S Squeeebox and Opus are still not on my list yet. Regards! Cowby

  7. Hi, Greeting from Hong Kong... First of all, I haven't go thru each reply / post but I can't help posting my setup for your reference. If for notebook / netbook / macbook simple connection (headamp with DAC), I will recommend Auidotrak DR-DAC2 (24/192) and I bought it from Japan last X'mas. http://www.audiotrak.jp/product/?audiotrak=DR.DAC%202 It is light and easy for setup (USB / Coax / Optical) and it can serve 2 phones and can it can drive my Grado RS1 / Ergo - 2 (yeah I bet you say ugly headphone) pretty good. The edge of this tiny DAC-amp is : you can change the op-amp yourself ... http://www.audiotrak.jp/product/images/pic/dac2/zoom/pic_12.jpg Though this amp is pretty hot in Japan (and may be in Korea as well), it only have few ppl mentioned in the States. This is an under-rated gear ! Another option : Mbox Micro which I bought this Jan. Amazing little USB amp. which the vol is high enough to drive most of the pop headphone around the market even HD-600. The draw back is you need to install the software called Pro-tools and its own sound driver. But it is only a 24-bit/48kHz USB sound card ... This is my current setup hope this helps. Regards! Cowby
  8. Hi, I have Sound forge 9 and Audtion 3.0 ... But if you think that other wav editor can do the following, pls let me know. all I want is to use a Audio editor to normalize the whole wav form or batch processing for 10 wav files at a time. Right now, I use the above editors by using trial and error approach to normalize the wav files. Say normalize by 110% or 115% and so on. But sometimes after the normalization, the peak level exceeded >> 0db. Is there a way to overcome it by not using trial and error approach ? Thanks! Cowby
  9. Hi, As a new member here. I'd like to share my experience on CAS (Computer As Source) with playback software. First of all, you should have a good DVD ROM/CDROM for ripping and I heard that Plextor and Yamaha has "audio" grade ROM drive which can help you ripping the song in a nice and clean way. But pls try your luck to find one cos' they are no longer avail. new in the market. Mine are LG and Pioneer - DVD Rom. If for casual listening, I like to use Media Monkey or foobar2000 but recently, I started to use this to listen to my music (for serious listening). http://www.samplitude.com/eng/seq/ Mine version is a light version 8.x (which came with RME audio interface - Fireface 800) and I know this is a very expensive software (when FULL) to buy until you are a producer. See if you can buy a cheaper and lighter version. I ripped the CDs to Wav format and import them to Samplitude. The nice thing is Sam can load your wav into RAM they called it RAM project. The benifit is you will get a very CLEAN sound from RAM rather than reading wav from a harddisk (mechanical movement or other annoying electronic hisss). And you know that nowadays 1G memory means nothing in terms of money. But the down size when playing song in SAM is you only get 2.xG (500MB for your own OS plus anti-virus and etc ..) of songs as Windows XP only support 3G of RAM (I have no idea on Vista) and it doesn't support playlist like Winamp or Foobar. So you need to drag your fav. songs in one by one within a single track. Then it will play the wav files in turn. You can also use this kind of Wav editor (e.g Sony's Sound forge) to trim the leading space or normalize the vol of the song. Fade in Fade out and make it like a "love song medley" then save it as a BIG wav file for future listen. Again with 2G free of memory, I think you can have around 3x songs to listen at any given time. Sounds not bad huh ? P.S I am also hunting for a cheaper solution for any sound editor / music playback software which can do RAM streaming. Regards! Cowby
