  1. To be perfectly honest, if you're unable to manage keeping a single disk drive in sync so that you can carry it with you, all other solutions are going to be _way_ over your head. That's by far the simplest solution, even if you're making updates to the library while away from home. Maintain a file server (or NAS if you like that buzzword) on your home network where you keep the master music library. (Make sure you regularly back up that library.) Copy (sync) the library onto your carry disk. If you make changes to the library while on the road, you can sync the changes back to the master library, based on file modification dates. Assuming you have a home network, you can access the files in both your listening room and home office directly off of your server. If not, use the carry disk.
