Excellent suggestion. Anybody want to add models to the list? I am perfectly happy buying an amp that is 5-8 years old.

Hi everybody, I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my older amplifier (in stereo). As I am using the Mac Mini as a HTPC, I want to take advantage of the 5.1 capabilities. Only my amplifier doesn't have a Toslink port. This is where I need help. There are tons of a/v receivers out there that could do the trick. But all I need is one input (S/PDIF) and a good amplifier for my front speakers (Energy Veritas 2.2i). The amplifier should also drive my lower quality rear and center speakers. Too many vendors sacrifice quality for gadgets. Can I get anything in the $500ish price range? Thanks Martin
