  1. Please specify version Mine is 3.21 and this function is still not working, not all bugs sorted out I think Jremote was great , so please keep it up with IOS 9 Regards
  2. There are still issues in jremote under IOS9 It is now fairly usable but for example when you try to search by hitting the metadata field it crashes Previou version for example you hit the metadata artist name and you got inmediately all tracks by this artist name... But it is usable now, with some bug
  3. By the way this coment applies to ripping vinyl where you only got one track with left and right channels If you are recording multitracks and apply Normalize then to all tracks you will have the same peak levels in all of them Sorry if this is messy
  4. With Normalize you define the máximum peak level of the track ie. -1db , and the amount of gain is calculated this way and then applied to the whole track as a constant ( this is my understanding of Audacity manual )No compression is added i think You must not check normalize stereo channels independently, otherwise stereo balance is altered You can use also amplify but then you can go into clipping if you do it too much This is my understanding of the manual and I have seen no changes in the relative amplitudes of the waveform when applied Normalize this way Best regards
  5. Paolo Fresu Quintet Melos Excellent music and sound even standard 44/16 Regards
  6. The key thing in the recording from vinyl to digital is setting a Recording level to avoid clipping The recomendation generally agreed is to leave a margin of around -3db to 0 in the loudest passages of the original (peaks) I think that there is consensus that is worst to go into clipping very often in the recording than to get a somehow low volume if this is not exaggerated to the extent of not getting a fair dinamic range Lets say your peaks are at -6db i would not worry and normalise You can manipulate level after recording within some range without sacrificing quality but you can not correct distorsion caused by saturation of the input signal in clipping Hope this helps Best regards
  7. Try the Normalize function in Audacity once you get the digital file previous to export the project This should restore volumes to normal levels See Audacity manual is described there
  8. My option was to get the vinyl ,best sounding option to me With it you get a download in mp3 320 not bad Finally i did a rip of the vinyl at 24/96 and for me is the best sound/convenience option better than the HD download a friend copied to me I think Chris wrote an article on this subject in this forum Regards
  9. When discusssing HR audio we mix several scenarios Sometimes we refer to reissues of old material in HR format, here the source material and remix or remaster are key and normally bit depth and SR are more a variable of in which domain are this being done because resolution and frequency extension are defined at the source. 24/96 or normal DSD is enough to do a proper job to get a closer experience to masters or to get a new interpretation let's say translación (for good or bad) of the original When talking of new recorded material my thinking is that we have now technologies that allow sound engineers to produce better captures of sound than in the past To which extent are this engineers able to cope with this technologies and sound recording studios from mics to mixing consoles and monitoring equipment are ready is another story. And even more important, are the music business interested in using them and bear all the cost and the burden ? And also are the recording artist aware of this and have knowledge and influence enough to use it to enhance their works?. These are the key issues for the future I guess and in answering them mainstream interest in sound quality is paramount
  10. If you open any song with Audacity you will see how many clips you got!! This is a good question about clipping and artistic decission, I guess the "dirty" sound is deliberate production value. Very processed music of a talented artist, if this is going to come through to you or not very difficult to say!!
  11. Another option is to use PLC I mean Ethernet over your power line there are several companies like Devolo or TPlink that can provide a solution to this Browse their webs and see if it is convenient to you cost can be 100/200$ I guess Hope this helps
  12. Lucinda Williams Live at Fillmore
  13. Maybe a little more info on your amp and speakers and room size will help Also if you have ethernet connection available to your network near your hifi rig or not Size of your digital library is also a consideration Thank you
  14. As an observer that follow up threads on JRiver because is a product I am interested in, I could not agree more that the topic of JPlay is really boring Positions on the mater are clear and we do not need going again to same places It is a pity that every new thread on this software it is hijacked this way Best regards and Happy New Year to all
  15. I have a question related to set up of bit depth for recording You can select 32 bits for the project and then export the audio files at 24 I guess then some dithering is applied Is this better than use 24 bit all the way in recording and export? Thank you for any insight about this
