  1. Why not just use JRMC and JRemote? That's my go-to anytime we're out of the country.
  2. Thanks gents. Have an FMC ordered from Small Green Computer and an EtherREGEN ordered from Uptone. Will update when I have things hooked up.
  3. Thanks Bob. Trying to determine whether to hardwire a fiber optic cable to my listening room versus use existing Ethernet with FMC. Latter may be more cost effective, not to mention more palatable to my wife ....
  4. Good morning, I am interested in the Signature Rendu SE and would like to know whether it is recommended to run a fiber optic cable directly from an SFP-equipped switch or to use a fiber ethernet converter. Any insight would be appreciated. Best regards, Tim
  5. View Classified FitEar ToGo 334 Original owner. Less than 40 hours of listening time (I had my first child shortly after buying them). Includes all original accessories and ALO Audio SXC-8 cable IEM Cable (mini balanced termination). Stock cable never used. I also have ALO Audio International+ amplifier/DAC and Astell & Kern RWAK100-S available with similar (non)use. Please email, text, or call me with any questions. Thanks, Tim Seller tseipel Date 01/14/21 Price Category Headphones
  6. Thanks for the knowledge Eric. I appreciate it. Best, Tim
  7. Good morning and happy holidays, Would someone be so kind as to explain the differences between the Fiber Ethernet Converter and opticalModule Deluxe? I currently have AT&T U-Verse Fiber Internet coming into my house and being routed through the AT&T Network Gateway (Motorola NVG589). I have cable ethernet connections to my two music servers, one of which is an Aurender N10 and the other is a WS2019/AO3.0/FidelizerPro/Roon Core PC. I also have a handful of Raspberry Pis acting as Roon Bridges, which are connected wirelessly to an AmpliFi Mesh Wi-Fi System, which itself is connected to the Motorola via cable ethernet. I would like to improve the sonics of the Aurender and the PC, which I assume means purchasing two modules. What other products should I consider? I already have my DACs (Chord Hugo for headphone PC and McIntosh D100 for Aurender). I apologize for the long-windedness and appreciate any insight. Best, Tim
  8. Good morning, I currently have a W7/JRMC music server in my listening room, which is connected to a McIntosh D100 DAC via a fancy/overpriced USB cable (and ASIO driver). I have my FLAC files on a 16TB WDC MyCloud EX4 NAS, which is one floor below the listening room. The NAS is connected via Ethernet to my ASUS RT-66U router, which sits in my listening room and is connected to my music server via Ethernet. My question: Can I move my music server out of my listening room, reconnect it to my network, connect my fancy/overpriced USB cable to my router, and achieve playback on my D100? I apologize in advance for my ignorance. However, extracting the server from its current location will take a bit of work. As such, I would like some reassurance (or caution) before I devote the time/effort/wife tapping her foot at me to this project .... All the best, Tim
  9. Good morning, I was hoping someone could recommend resources (i.e., books, online web courses, websites, etc.) for learning Linux. I am a Neuroradiologist (i.e., village idiot) with a background in biologic sciences. I have no formal computer science training but know how to read and can count on both hands. Any help/advice would be truly appreciated. All the best, Tim
  10. Chris, Thanks so much for this intriguing build. I've been waiting for the folks over at J River to complete their Raspberry Pi Id devices, but the last time I checked they were still not ready to ship. Which leads me to my question: How would the device you designed work in a (currently) Windows-based JRMC environment? Also, do you (or anyone else in the community) have any idea whether I could mount a Linux-based version of JRMC on the Pi using J River's Id stick? As always, I truly appreciate the insight. Best regards, Tim
  11. Good afternoon, I primarily use my HDVD800 to drive my 800s, using the Sennheiser CH800S balanced cable. I've been very happy with both products. I would echo comments re: synergy between the Sennheiser amp and headphones. I find the DAC in the HDVD800 to be complementary, providing a tad bit of warmth to the cans. I also periodically use the headphone output (with the stock unbalanced cable) on my McIntosh D100, which I primarily use to drive a pair of B&W 801s via two McIntosh 601 amps. Also sounds fantastic. Massive headroom. I'm happy to comment more specifically if need be. Best regards, Tim
  12. Good morning, I am hoping someone can help me resolve my inability to use my modified Astell & Kern AK100 (Red Wine Audio) RWAK 100-S as a stand-alone DAC. I've reached out to Vinnie at Red Wine Audio, who is out of ideas and suggested I reach out to the community. The signal path I am trying to use is: Latest generation 13" MBP Retina (Yosemite) running J River Media Center 20 -> RWAK 100-S via iRiver-supplied USB cable -> ALO Audio International amplifier -> FitEar ToGo! 334. The Mac and JRMC both "see" the RWAK 100-S (labeled iRiver DAC) and JRMC and iTunes both play tracks without error. However, no sound makes it to the earphones. I have gone into System Preferences and selected the RWAK 100-S as the output. I have also changed the volume settings multiple times at the system and program levels, without any luck. When I use the International as a DAC/amplifier, there is no problem with playback. I would love to use the Wolfson chip in the RWAK 100-S as my primary DAC, rather than the Cirrus chip in the International. As such, any thoughts on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Tim
  13. Thank you to both of you for your input. I appreciate it. Tim
  14. Good morning, I am looking to replace my current music server, which is a Dell Optiplex 755 USFF with 4GB RAM running Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate. I use JRMC20 as my playback software, pulling my Lossless FLAC files from a 16TB WD MyCloud EX4 via Gigabit Ethernet. I send the signal over USB 2.0 via an Audioquest Diamond cable to a McIntosh D100 DAC, which requires a Windows ASIO driver. I wish to replace the Dell because the fan noise has become aggravating. I otherwise have had no problem with the machine performance-wise. I like the Mac Mini as it is an off-the-shelf solution. I plan on installing JRMC20 on both the Yosemite and Windows 7 partitions, the latter of which I am planning to install as a 64-bit version using Boot Camp. This leads me to my question(s): What Mac Mini configuration would the community suggest? I would appreciate input re: processor requirements, RAM, and/or internal HD. I still intend to store the files on my NAS, rather than on the Mini. I would also welcome folks' opinions on which OS to employ, with the caveat that I intend to use JRMC in either case. Lastly, I would welcome opinions re: which version of Windows 7 to employ. I have a valid activation key that allows for 32- or 64-bit architecture and Ultimate, the latter of which I am uncertain whether I need. As always, I appreciate the insight. Best regards, Tim
