1. http://funkysofa.com/shoe-chair.html Resonant frequency is < body organ freq of 7 Hz - very important when selecting an appropriate listening support system (LSS).
 2. Hi Group - Have any of you checked out Bob Weir's new recording studio? Okay, I admit - I liked the Grateful Dead and what's come after. Even if you don't share my like for their music, check out the studio at www.tristudios.com. They're doing some pretty advanced audio/video stuff there. Hope you enjoy! Randy Bend, Oregon
 3. CAPS v2.0 >> ARC DAC 8 >> ARC LS17 preamp >> ARC VM220 Monoblocks (2) >> Paradigm Signature 8 (L/R) speakers & B&W ASW 750 sub. I've had this set up for several months and am very impressed. Best sound I've ever had in my 35+ years as an audio entheusiast. Listening to Ottmar Liebert "One Guitar". Absolutely beautiful! OK - I know I haven't offered any valuable comparisons. I'm just amazed at the great sound. I'd be interested in hearing a comparison of DAC 8 to the new USB Alpha DAC. Anybody done that? Randy
 4. Chris,

Curious as to why USB storage is not ideal to pair with a USB DAC. I built the CAPS v2.0 and purchased an Audio Research DAC 8 for my systems front end. For now, I'm using a cheap "simple save" HP USB 1Tb HDD.

Thanks for your hard work on the CAPS and for "putting it out there" for free. Very cool.

Randy
 5. Early in my hi-fi hobby (1976?), I attended a stereo show at the Sheraton Hotel in Portland, Oregon. A friend of mine from Reed was there. So was Apple Computer. They had a display in one of the rooms. I remember thinking it strange for a computer manufacturer to be at a stereo show. Now I think how completely fitting it was. I should've bought stock.

Thanks Steve.

Randy
From my iMac
 6. Hello Jesus, When you say "Hard drives and optical disk drives generate a lot of [ground loop] noise.", would you also include SSD's in this statement? Randy
 7. All parts spec'ed by Chris arrived yesterday and I began putting it together. I've read every post on the CAPS v2.0 and could still use some clarification on a few things...

The M10 Case:
Emulating the picture in the article of the server innards (under "Hardware - Motherboard") - I removed these items from the case as shipped, as they are not used:
1. VF310 Display
2. Fan
3. M-PX150-P2 DC-DC Converter
4. 7-Connector Wiring Harness
5. The M10-supplied in-line external power supply (use the other)
6. The IR Remote is not used
7. Removed the M10 back panel DC power inlet jack

I don't see the inline SATA filter in the picture either, but it goes between the SDD and one of the two SATA connectors that splits from the white Nylon MoBo SATA Power Connector, correct?

The other SATA connector on the splitter from the same white Nylon MoBo SATA Power Connector connects to the SATA to Molex adapter and it, to the PCI-to-USB card, right?

I attached a picture of how mine looks.

I plugged it in and green LED on MOBo lights. I push the front panel button and things come to life with front panel LED illuminated - Hooray! My monitor comes to life and says "Reboot and select proper boot device, or...". I think this is where I need to connect a (USB) optical drive and load s/w.

Question: Do I need to load the IPC motherboard driver s/w from the disc... and then load Win 7 after that?

I feel like a bone head. Sincere thanks in advance for your help!

Randy

8. Thanks for insights from all CA members. I ordered all the parts to build the CAPS v2.0 as Chris had intended. Only exception was substituting DDR2 800 as recommended by the tech at Logic Supply. (Hope his advice was sound.)

My local Hi-Fi store owner has an Audio Research DAC8 he said he'd let me borrow when I'm ready. Nice to be able to try before I buy, for sure. I hope the CAPS v2.0 and this DAC are a good fit.

My system will look like this when I'm up and running (again)...
CAPs v2.0 > ARC DAC8 > ARC LS17 preamp > ARC VM220 monoblocks (2) > Paradigm S8 speakers (2) and a B&W ASW 750 sub. Other sources include an Oppo BDP 83 SE and a Music Man mmf 2.1 turntable.

Next, I'm looking into an iPad for remote control.

I've been into audio since I was a young teenager. I was just reflecting on putting my first system together - Dynaco Sterio 120, Hafler DH-101 preamp and later, a DH-200 MOSFET amp (all from kits), Conneseur TT, Roy Cizek speakers.

Ahhh... The journey continues...
 9. Chris - Nice work on V2. Just in time, as my 5 year old home-built server with noisy fans and HDD (OS is on Intel SDD)has gone on the fritz after an emergency XP re-install. Thanks to you, I can leap-frog off of your hard work and have a head start.

Shopping for a suitable external DAC to replace my old EMU 1820m... hmmm... alpha DAC?

Just wanted to Thank You!
Randy
 10. OR... now that the NF99FL-525 is out, would it be a better choice?
 11. The Logic Supply link to this MB only has the non-LF version. What's the difference? Can't seem to find any references.
