1. Thanks wgscott, you did link me. The "chat" I am talking about was on the main menu of the CA site I think it was called "Realtime ... something" Either way, apologies for the confusion and forgetting your username. I did however come to the conclusion, that the previously mentioned Pioneer DEX-P99RS with a Voyage onboard computer would be a good combination. The DEX-P99RS have a Digital input, so from what I understand you would be able to make use of its internal 24bit DAC's. That is if you use a motherboard with decent Digital output. Only concern and I guess it would be a case of understanding more about Car Audio, is that these units have way to many settings and equalisers compared to other audiophile equipment.
 2. Not much traction on this post, however I did some more research today. The two above mentioned units from Pioneer have 24Bit DAC's on board. the P99RS is the better of the two units, and have a 32bit DSP unit separate to the display unit. Which feeds out speaker outputs Pioneer calls their 4 way speaker system. One thing odd is how Car Audio is pro settings, the gentleman helping me today in the audio shop was going on about the multi channel equalisers on these units. The DEX-P99RS have 31 channels of left and right channels respectively and you need to set the crossover timings by using a calibration mic. Lots to learn, still no Flac support, MP3 WMA and WAV o and AAC.
 3. Hi, Not sure what happened, I came to CA today and the live chat is gone? Did I miss something? I started a chat thread on Computer Audio in the car. Doing some research on upgrading my Car Sound System. Received some handy links and advice from another CA patron. Currently I have an Eclipse AVN 726 EA head unit and can plugin my iphone. My understanding is that it makes use of the iPhone DAC and then just amplifies and play back the signal. So far I managed to find FLAC Player for iOS and it can play all of my FLAC Library which includes 24/96. I know the iPhone 4 only has a 16/44 DAC so I am not getting the real thing. The question/confirmation I have is to do with the AUX Connection of the AVN 726 EA. See the image below (hope the image shows), its from the installation manual that came with the head unit. I am currently using the iPod adapter. However if I am to remove it and connect another source with a 24/192 DAC will that be better than replacing the head unit. With something that supports 24bit out of the box and link it to a music library. I was thinking Mini-ITX computer with Voyage MPD and a decent USB DAC? http://www.blueteq.net/skitch/avndiagram-20101228-155354.jpg
 4. Depending on the UPnP software you use.
Twonky, which is paid for is multi platform and works very well.
Not to over promote twonky, go look on Linn's site, Twonky is one of the few that follow most of the DLNA standard.

I have tried most Control point software on the iphone, and Plug Player is the best... supports Album art in the latest release.

O yes, FLAC and OS X dont play well together... get VLC to playback tracks on the Mac.
Also to rip on the Mini... get MAX.

5. I have been a Linn supporter for years now, Having owned the Sneaky DS (Majik DSi's Little brother) for over a year now I have to say Digital is the way to go.
I put together a very nice ubuntu server running Twonky Media and a few scripts that allows me to insert a CD it will auto rip it into lossless flac.
Also Sign up for B&W Society of Sound, think its $59US per year and every month you get a free 24bit album. They sound terrific!

More and more artists and labels are now releasing 24bit audio. I have a few friends that have bands who gives me their studio master digital copies... make a difference.

However even CD ripped sound great, very nice DAC.
And as I use to worry about vibrations etc in the past, separating the transport... etc..
