1. Hello Everybody, I don't really understand the advantage of these new protocols like UPnP/DLNA upon the "ancient" method of playing digital audio, even in HR, with players/management softwares on PCs and/or MACs using DACs and servers. If someone can tell in few words what is improved by these new protocols... Thank in advance for this.
2. Hi all, I wonder if somebody already investigate if there are jitter issues with AUNetSend and AUNetReceive of AU Lab ? Same question with AUFilePlayer... In this last case, how is processed the audio ? I mean if the file is for example an HR (like 24/192), do you think that the plug-in plays automatically in this native format or is there any downsampling before playing ? Thanks for any input, Best
3. Bonjour Damien ;-)) Would you add to Audivarna the playing of web radios? I would really listen to web radios through your player ASAP since it probably will improve the listening of Internet audio in general, then the player will not only compete with iTunes but with more other players ! My Best = Cordialement !
4. Well, it seems several other factors affect the sound some of them are : - the protocole type (USB vs. FireWire) - the locking and slaving of the audio device (i. e. the DAC) - the processor, the OS kernel and drivers, 64-bit will give improved results over the 32-bit versions. FireWire is a better candidate since it is a Peer to Peer protocol with less CPU accesses. Locking and slaving the audio device will also reduce jitter obviously... The very interesting result with several of these soft players (free or not, like Amarra, Pure Music, AyreWave and Audivarna) is that they all are better in 44.1 kHz/16 bits than any oversampled version of the tracks with say iTunes or another "old" player ! Even when they play lossless (FLAC or Apple) tracks...
5. As explained by Benchmark, the new versions of iTunes (after 7.X) must be used with the maximum resolution of the audio hardware connected to the computer and it is possible, without any degradation, to control the audio output with the iTunes slider !... Then, I connected my DAC outputs directly to my amplified loudspeakers, avoiding any interface, preamp or passive and I use the Remote app of my iPhone to remotely control iTunes. Unfortunately the range and the min available doing like this are not adapted. Moreover, with Internet Radios the min remains very very loud since the sensitivity of my amplified loudspeakers is very high, i. e. near -6 dB to get 100 dB SPL !... Is there any digital preamp (hardware or... software !) we can use between the digital out of the MBPro and the external DAC to control the volume in a larger range and with very low levels for max attenuation ? TIA for any suggestion !... My Best,
6. Hi,

I also have the PS Audio DL III mod by Rick Cullen (Stage IV) and I think this is a great piece of gear ! But don't forget the quality of the Mac Book Pro as a very high end player indeed !

All the best,
