  1. I highly recommend checking out the Richard Dodd Interview on the homepage<br /> <br /> http://www.artandscienceofsound.com/<br /> <br /> at 13min he talks about loudness war and whats wrong in todays recording business.
  2. Linn wants to know if you've been naughty or nice this year. http://www.facebook.com/linnhifi?v=app_4949752878 24/48 Studio Masters waiting for you.
  3. Anybody have heard or seen the new Onkyo Pre- and Power-Amp yet? Especially the Pre-Amp is very interesting. - Separate Burr-Brown 192 kHz/32-Bit DACs (PCM1795) for L/R Channels - USB Digital Input for 192 kHz/32-Bit HD Audio from PC Check out the P 3000 R here: http://www.eu.onkyo.com/products/P-3000R.html Price is around 1.700 EUR Power-Amp M 5000 R is 2500 EUR
  4. I understand from the test they did measured it via Coax, not sure if it's the same for optical.<br /> <br /> If you want to take a look at the figures check out this pdf. It's from a german shop who put the measurements online (page 2).<br /> I know it's german but not that difficult (with google).<br /> <br /> <br /> http://www.hifisound.de/oxid/out/oxbaseshop/html/0/test_pdf/ARC-2200005.pdf
  5. Hi Chris,<br /> <br /> thanks for the review. It's a really neat piece of kit. I'm waiting to audition one, but my dealer doesn't have the rDAC yet.<br /> <br /> <br /> It was tested in German HiFi Magazines and they measured a very high Jitter rate through Coax input. 4356 ps ! While the USB input only got 145 ps.<br /> So i can imagine that the USB input was clearly the best in your test. <br /> Do you did any measurements? Maybe it was just that one DAC the German testers had, some kind of pre-production Version.<br /> <br /> <br /> Thanks
  6. "Mono mode for checking mix phase issues (or listening to Pet Sounds)" Ha Ha! I love manufacturers who doesn't take it to serious. Any idea what this piece would cost. If this one is cheaper than a Benchmark HDR, i consider buying one.
  7. Thanks firedog for the insight into both versions.
  8. Thanks for all the quick reviews. I always found the bass a bit 'too much' on the 25th Version. So i think i will like this one. I'm considering buying the Vinyl instead of Hi-Res, but probably ending up with both, just to compare them.
  9. Hallo Harald, have you finished the download yet? How does it sound? Can you compare it to a CD Version? Are there some videos as well, or is it just music? Danke
  10. Well, you should try ripping your CD's to ALAC (Apple Lossless) to get the best quality from your music. The DAC Magic is great, your iQ7 is an awesome speaker. But in your setup, i would say the Denon is the weakest link now. Are you running a surround setup? Otherwise a Stereo amp should give you a better result.
  11. @Harald That's what i call a true audiophile. Buying a Hi-Res album, which he don't like that much, just to support the technology. Good man. I would like to see which version sells better. But considering that only audiophiles buy Hi-Res, they should know about the importance of dynamic.
  12. There's nothing wrong with the samples, although they're Low Quality MP3s you can clearly hear whats going on. It's get even worse on CD. I think the MFSL's are from the same master tapes as the new ones, but they did a much better job with it. Have you looked up the 'Double Fantasy' album there? http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/home/search/-/lang/en/currency/EUR/fastsearch/john+lennon+double+fantasy/pd_orderby/score They have three versions you can listen to - the new one - a 2000 remaster issue - and a Ltd. Papersleeve issue from 2007 I listened to the Remix-samples, they are quite interesting. Sounds like 'Double Fantasy - Naked'. Maybe the asked price for the album is okay if it's just for the music. 'Double Fantasy' doesn't sound as bad as 'Mind Games' tho.
  13. My friend is already pissed. I told him to keep it for 30 years and sell the Box when Lennon got his 100th B-day I found some samples from 'Mind Games' on a German online shop (i hope you can listen to it) It's not a perfectly accurate way to compare but it should give you an idea. It's basically what i experienced. This is the new 2010 remaster: http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/John-Lennon-Mind-Games/hnum/6139616 And this is the Japan CD i got http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/John-Lennon-Mind-Games/hnum/6203797 Track 12. 'Meat City' says it all. Couldn't find an MFSL sample of 'Mind Games', but they have 'Imagine' as MFSL New 2010 remaster: http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/John-Lennon-Imagine/hnum/8180428 MFSL http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/John-Lennon-Imagine-24-Karat-Gold-CD/hnum/9367777 It may not be that dramatic in the samples but from CD it's quite obvious.
  14. @ bixby I use the TT Dynamic Range Meter (http://www.pleasurizemusic.com/) ...which is no longer a free download as i just found out. You have to become an active member now Maybe you can find it if you're looking for it somewhere else, if you now what i mean. It works for MP3 and WAV. I rip my CDs in WAV, let the Dynamic Range Meter run through it and then convert it to FLAC and write the DR# in the comments. @firedog The MFSL's doesn't sound compressed. I don't know which masters they used for it. On the Japan CD, the instruments are much louder mixed compared to Lennons voice. But with a DR 10 still listenable.
  15. Hi, i had the Signature Box from a friend and compared it with my MFSL and a few Japan-Versions. I can't tell you about "John's Audio Mix" because Double Fantasy was just one disc. I think only if you buy it separately you'll get a second disc. The sound of the new remasters are rubbish. The Beatles remasters were better by miles. I compared 'Mind Games' with the MFSL and Japan Version (Japan EMI TOCP- 70395) It sound like they recorded it from an old cassette. Especially the song 'Meat City'. There is no bass. It's not like it is a bit shy here, there is no frequency below 150Hz (guessed). The rest sounds thin with no definition, blurry. The hole Box sounds not as bad this song. But it's just a waste of money if you want to buy it just for good sound. If you're a hardcore fan or collector then you may consider it. I don't know how the original sounds, but the MFSL is so much better. I don't expected it be as good as MFSL, but i hoped it would be a nice alternative to listen to.
