  1. Thanks Caner for actually answering my question! Ha but realistically I know that the room and speaker placement are much more critical. That is something that I cannot change much right now due to my limited space and limited budget. There is SO much debate on cables, I haven't read much on which ones are more important than others. Perhaps I needed to dig a little deeper. Thanks for your opinions, keep them coming. Huu
  2. New to the audiophile scene but now that i dropped some cash on a basic budget system (pair of bookshelf speakers, amp, mf v-dac ii) looking forward to my next improvement. what should be my next purchases in order of impact in sound? Speaker cables (currently using 14 or 16 gauge id guess.) Usb cable from laptop to dac. (currently using 2' belkin $5-10) Interconnect (using 20' dynex rca. decent quality. $20?) new power supply for Dac (read that the stock psu of the v-dac is poor) Thanks in advance..
  3. Psb mini are amazing. id recommend them. if this is for your kitchen and casual background music, it is plenty loud. never knew such great sound can come from these small speakers.
  4. i was very close to getting the rs1's having auditioned them at my local dealer. the clarity and the tweeter was nothing ive ever experienced in my life! granted i havent been in the hi fi game for too long. ultimately the poor low end was the deal breaker for me. even though i dont listen to that much bass heavy music or crank it up all that loud, i heard substantial distortion when the volume was at a moderate level. I dunno, does anyone else notice this as well?
  5. been using media monkey for a few years now amd im very happy with it. never thought to sample other programs or that they would make much difference in sound quality but ill try it sometime.
  6. Hello Fellow Audiophiles, Fairly content with my new stereo purchases for my tiny apt and I have been listening to it non stop! I am, however, bothered by the static noise coming out of the speakers every time I adjust the volume on my amp. Any ideas what this could be and how to solve it? Here is my current setup: 2-Monitor Audio BR1 Bookshelf speakers NAD C316BEE Integrated Amplifier MF V-DAC II Laptop w/USB connection. (3 prong to 2 prong converter for the plug to reduce noise)
  7. Ok, did a little research, and it looks like Marantz NR 1501 may be a good option for me. Compact, good sound and video quality. 7.1 surround. Any thoughts on this? http://us.marantz.com/Products/2926.asp
  8. Great! Thank you so much for the suggestion! Although I'd probably say that my priorities are about 10% movies / 90 % music
  9. Hi all, Great website! So much info, but I am still a bit overwhelmed! I currently am transitioning out of DJing as my hobby and perhaps, audiophillia is my next? I have a CRAPPY panasonic home theater in a box system that I play music from occasionly, but I usually don't have time to play music at home, I stick to my Klipsch S4 headphones and my Cowon iaudio 9 mp3 player (FLAC files of course). I do hear a slight difference between the FLAC and 320 bit rate MP3's, and I'm yearning to hear the FLAC files to their fullest. So hear's the problem, I'm on a tight budget, plus I want a versatile system to use as my home theater audio for movies as well. I also live in a urban area where space is at a premium! What is the first thing I should buy? I would like to have at least a 5 channel receiver for surround sound too. Is it asinine to pair a nice mainstream consumer AV receiver with another high end DAC? Any info I would appreciate, I apologize in advance if I offended anyone
