  1. Thanks One and a half. Just to clarify, are you suggesting all my music files will / should reside on the computer that I use for playback?
  2. Am new to JR MC on Mac or PC... Just wanted to know if JR MC on a Mac can see the files on a NAS drive or do the files have to be imported to the PC being used for playback?
  3. Paul, Thanks for clarifying ...I will def re-install my Remote app. and see if that helps. One and a half, Thank you for your personal insight. I am also interested in a simple, reliable, complete package... you said it best ...an appliance! Like the guys in the home automation biz always say... products will live or die by their control or user interface. If it is intuitive or simple to use, than the chances for success are much greater. I def want an appliance but one that also sounds good! Many people on here really like the JR and JRemote combo. This may be a little unfair to ask at this point in time as one product has evolved over the years and the other is practically just out of Beta and is still under development.... but what the heck...I will ask anyway... One and a half, can you share what differences you noticed in sound quality btw JR Windows and the Mac version? Thanks
  4. Thanks Paul for the insight. Looks like you have played with all the major players... I have also notice that my Apple Remote app is not doing what I tell it to do, ever since I upgraded to iTunes 11?!?! I thought something was not right with my computer!! ...but doesn't seem to be the case. Just to clarify you said... "JRMC/MacOS vs Audirvana+ (and Amarra and Pure Music) has slighlty inferior sound quality. About equal with iTunes, which to be honest, is very good indeed." Is Audirvana+ (and Amarra and Pure Music) the one you are referring to that has the slightly inferior sound quality here? You also said... "JRMC/Windows vs Audirvana+ (and Amarra and Pure Music and iTunes/Mac). The Windows version presents a different sound, which is in its own way, every bit as appealing as A+ or Amarra to listen to. In my judgement, it isn't quite as good sounding as the Mac players, and indeed, JRMC/MacOS sounds *better* to me." Are you suggesting that the JRMC/MacOS sounds better than the JR Windows version and all the other Mac players...AV+...etc. Also, just wondering if you have tried to use JR/MacOS with JRemote yet? Is it working reliable? .... I'm sure in due time they will play nice with each other. Thanks
  5. realmassy, thanks for the reply. Have you compared JR with the latest version of Audirvana+ both running on your Mac mini? Could you please share what differences in sound quality you noticed between the two players? I’ve heard a lot of great things about JRemote. Is it the convenience of JRemote that caused you to move over to JR or is it the sound quality? Thamks.
  6. Paul, I see you have what I am looking for....windows on a Mac mini running JR, are you also using JRemote reliable? Have you ever compared the sound quality of JR versus that of Adirvana+? What are the main differences you noticed that you can share? Thanks.
  7. Thank Mick, So did you prefer the sound quality of AV+ over JR in windows? Are you able to the comment on the difference in the sound between the two players... Thanks
  8. Thanks rooob. Have you ever tried runner JR Windows version on a mac in Bootcamp? Can you comment on the sound quality here vs Audirvana +.
  9. Thanks for the insight Mick The Kraken! Are you using iTunes as the interface and Audirvana + as the player? Also wondering if you have ever had the chance to compare JRiver on your mac with Audirvana in terms of sound quality? Thanks
  10. Thanks everyone for your replies. eternaloptimist, I was also considering Audirvana plus. Which version of A+ have you tired and would you say the sound quality of JR is up there with A+? What have you found to be the major differences in sound btw the two? Also interested to hear from anyone else who has had the opportunity to compare JR with A+. Thanks
  11. I am interested in upgrading to Audirvana on my Mac mini, but all the hype about JRiver and JRemote`s app has made me wonder which direction to go. I see you seem to prefer Audirvana over JRiver. With my Wiess DAC2 I will not be able to take advantage of integer mode. Have you ever tried Audirvana without integer mode and would you still recommend Audirvana even without the integer mode ON. What improvements did you notice over JRiver. Thanks
  12. Hi Mick The Kraken, nice set up. I also have a Weiss Dac2 with a mac mini. Was wondering how you like Audirvana Plus with your Weiss. I am currently just using iTunes and am looking to upgrade to a good player. Would you recommend it. Also just wondering it says you have a Weiss Dac2 FW v.2.03.5...is that the firmware software. Thanks.
  13. When it's all said and done it would be interesting to compare the sound quality of the almighty JRiver running on a Windows box vs a Mac...
  14. I know JRiver is working on a Mac OS X version of their software, but in the meantime are there any of you out there who are reliably running Windows and JRiver on a Mac, controlled by JRemote. Most importantly how does it all sound? I currently have a mid 2011 Mac mini (2.3 / Intel i5) connected to a Weiss Dac2 using iTunes 11. Have read so many great things on here about JRiver and JRemote that I am really considering the switch. I know this is a long shot, but have any of you compared JRiver on a Mac running Windows versus JRiver running on a Windows box. How does the sound quality compare? Please indicate which Mac you are using and what vs of Windows and JRiver you are using and any other relevant specs?
