  1. Thanks for all the comments. I'm heading back overseas and unfortunately was not able to try the receiver with the Toslink cable. When all this is done I will go with a HTPC and better receiver anyways. I downloaded the free version of JRiver (Media Jukebox) and like it so far. I plan on redoing my music library now (have a good number of CDs I can rip). Saw a few different programs mentioned. My question is what format should I use? Not concerned about space. But would like it to be as high quality as possible. Also needs to be able to be used with JRiver to be put on my Ipod Classic. I don't want to have to maintain an Ipod library and a HTPC library, not sure how this figures in. Thanks again for the help.
  2. Thanks for all the comments guys. I didn't think there would be a simple fix for this. I'm mainly wanting to get all my files and software organized while I am away from home and have the time. The laptop is a Acer Aspire 6920z. It is labeled SPDIF on the headphone jack, so I will try that and see if it improves the quality when I am back stateside. So am I correct to understand that the media can be getting mixed multiple times when I use I tunes and contributing to the poorer sound? The link for the duplicates was great.
  3. Hey new member here. First let me get you up to speed. Have a simple vista laptop with I-tunes. I work in Iraq and share a lot of music with my buddies. I got a ton of music totalling about 90gb. Most of the bitrates were around 128. Anyways the tracks sounded fine with comp. speakers and such. I came home and went to audition my speakers that I spent about 3k on. I can give you all the details on the specs if you like. I hooked my laptop to the AVR via a 3.5mm headphone jack. There was no static, but the music sounded extremely low and lifeless. My "control" was music provided by the digital cable provider. It was almost twice as loud at the same volume setting. I even listened to the same songs, ex. AC/DC Hells Bells. I cannot re-rip all my music. So my question(s) are: can i improve on the SQ of my existing library? If not is there a bit torrent website that has a lot of high grade downloads available? If so what is the addy and what specs should I look for? I also plan on a HTPC in the future. Will these deficiencies be corrected by a better (like i said have only a simple headphone jack) audio card? Also have a lot of duplicates in my library, would like a program that eliminates all of them.
