  1. Greetings, all: I'm new to the forum and just about to embark on assembling a basic Mac-based playback system. Much of my library is two-channel, 24-bit material recorded at 4x rates. However, I have done several projects throughout the years in high resolution surround (quad and five-channel surround at 24-bit / 96 kHz), and am struggling to find a proper vehicle for playback. The 4-channel surround projects consist of a set of interleaved stereo files (Fl, Fr; Rl, Rr) and the five-channel projects consist of interleaved stereo files and a single mono file set (Fl, Fr; C; Rl, Rr). Two questions stem from this: 1) What solutions exist to encode interleaved multichannel audio from individual components of the mix? I thought of authoring a multichannel DVD-Audio image, but this of course introduces removable media into the equation, which defeats the 'computer audiophile' component of the equation. I've seen discussion of certain DAWs supporting multichannel mixdown, but format what I use depends on 2)... 2) What - if any - playback programs support multichannel playback? I currently feed my monitoring rig with a Metric Halo ULN-8, and hoped to send individual channels of the mix via analog outs and feed my playback amp, too. Is this possible with the usual suspects (Amarra, Pure Music, etc.?), or am I forced to use a studio-type playback solution (i.e. load files into a DAW and 'monitor' for multichannel playback?) If anyone can help, would be much appreciated. I am fluent in the recording space, but this computer-based playback stuff is new to me. If anyone can help, please e-mail me if possible: [email protected] Thanks much! Chris
