  1. Very useful info, than you. Received mine yesterday - very solid bit of kit I have to say. However, it does not appear to work with an Audiobyte Black Dragon either which may be the 5V on pin 18. I've played around with the settings with no joy. :-(
  2. Chris<br /> <br /> I got the Chord Company here in Wiltshire to re-terminate some balanced Chorus leads so one end was TRS. I use these in a desktop listening system with an Apogee Duet 2 with similar outs. <br /> <br /> It wasnt expensive at all and they fit nicely, certainly compared to the XLR/ TRS adapters. I think about £20 to £25 per termination.
  3. I have been using a TC Konnekt 24 to digitise vinyl but with being a new father, I'm also going to be listening to headphones more. One option I'm looking at is trying out the Apogee Duet 2 just out of interest. I'm not sure if there will be a massive improvement in SQ but it is USB vs FW so I will be able to compare. Interestingly the Duet is now USB having been FW and therefore both PC & Mac compatible. I'll report back when it arrives and I've done some comparisons. BTW, a cheap FW splitter from Lindy allowed me to run both the Konnekt and my Onnto DAS off the same port on the Mac. Works flawlessly & can be bus powered.
  4. Is what I have my CD library ripped as. I just don't think ALAC has a future as everyone uses AIFF or FLAC. I have to say, I do like Apple products but I wish they would just eat humble pie here & adopt FLAC.
  5. Bill, that's very helpful advice. The Lacie I think can take an additional 4 drives - my intent was to buy one, stick a couple of 2TB drives in I have lying around & bingo. Use it for both backup & media. I have a Mac based system & it seems to be OK with that according to Lacie. My Cambridge Audio NP30 I was actually given & it's a great bit of kit. I actually already have it running off an Onnto 2.5" 1TB drive formatted as FAT - I just update my music files occasionally. It also works with the Onnto mini-RAID with 2x1TB drives installed. I therefore can get files in 2 ways to the NP30 - via the USB drive or (currently) running EyeConnect on the Mac. I was looking for a way to centralise things. Perhaps its worthwhile hanging fire for now - continue running music off the USB drive - and waiting to see what Auraliti come up with in the form of a NAS server? I would love to try the PK100 as I don't have an async input to my DAC (yet).
  6. I agree, I've learnt a lot more about the product in this thread than before. Demian, I appreciate things are in development at the moment but I was literally about to shell out on a WHS NAS (the Lacie 5big backup) when I read this thread & noticed your comments about WHS. I also noticed Bills comments. My current media streamer I am very happy with but I like the look of the Auraliti products. Would a WHS NAS work with an Auraliti product in the future if it is enabled for network streaming? I followed Bills link & it seems to me it would with a bit of tinkering. I also wondered if there were any plans to combine the PK90 & 100 in a single chassis so there is an option of different outputs.
  7. Through Low Light & Trees, great album from a young band just starting out. Just played it start to finish (admittedly on vinyl), can now face the 0200hrs feed for my new born son with a smile on my face! They're touring the US at the moment so do check them out if you live in the Land of the Free!
  8. You could do a lot worse! I had one before, cracking bit of equipment. I only changed to the NP30 as I was given it to B test. Add a RipNAS or Zoneripper (which I am going for) or run squeezeserver on your PC and you will have a very good system I think! It also has a more than acceptable S/PDIF output.
  9. I have had an NP30 for about 4 months now & can say I am very pleased with it. I have it connected to a Chord QBD76 via it's digital co-axial out and have the Chord on maximum buffer - I think the SQ is slightly better this way. It is certainly not a million miles away from the equivalent CD played with my Blu transport to the same DAC. I know you aren't interested in HiRes - I am not that bothered either bar my home ripped 24/88.2 vinyl. However the NP30 is limited to 24/96 and this is FLAC only. It won't play HiRes AIFFs (up to 16/48) which is a bit of an issue as I have my iTunes library stored as these. There is currently no support for ALAC although Ben from Cambridge Audio did mention this is an option for the future depending on demand. It works very well with EyeConnect running on my Mac & the IPhone & IPad interfaces are excellent. I actually prefer it with a 1TB 2.5" drive plugged into its rear with all my music files on which is why I am still very interested in the Auraliti (especially if they do come out with a Network Storage solution). Just wish they'd answer e-mails although they are probably very busy!
  10. I'm slightly biased in that I have a Chord system & really love what the Team are doing down in Kent - really out of the box thinking.<br /> <br /> The QBD76 I have will accept a 24/96 via Bluetooth (according to Chord) but I have to say I rarely use it. With a kid on the way & the prospect of children's parties, that may change.<br /> <br /> I think its a very fair review Chris - it's not everyone's cup of tea but the whole Chordette range is intriguing!
  11. I’m after a bit of advice from obviously the huge experience on this forum for my (albeit) simple problem. The issue I have is I wish to connect my media streamer to my Chord DAC. In other words connect a 75ohm unbalanced SPDIF output to a 110ohm balanced XLR AES input. The distance is trivial – maximum of 1m. I have done some background research mainly based on this article: http://www.rane.com/note149.html My question is, can this be accomplished by a 75ohm cable wired with RCA at one end & unbalanced XLR at the other (as in AES3id) or do I need a device such as: http://www.murraypro.com/spdif-tos.htm (which I assume corrects the voltage to AES3 as well as the impedance etc) or this: http://www.markertek.co.uk/Catalog/Level-Attenuation-Control/NADITBNC-MX (which appears to just correct the impedance etc) I assume the former would be appropriate over longer runs but bearing in mind the short length, I would imagine no voltage correction would be needed as it would still be above the minimum of 200mV to operate within protocol. Therefore the Neutrik adapter would appear to do the trick. Any suggestions? Any potential problems?
  12. I've got one plugged into my Cambridge Audio NP30 with 2 x 1TB 2.5 inch disks and am very happy with it. I just synchronise it from time to time with my iTunes library using FolderSync. It is fanless, quiet & is well built. The G-Tech Mini is also good (I have a 500GB version) - again fanless & probably a slightly more exotic design.
  13. My most recent speakers have been Wilson Benesch Arcs (driven by Chord amplification), ATC 50A Anniversary Towers & 20A Towers (the latter two active from a very good Studio Monitor manufacturer). All three were wonderful & different in their own ways. The OT asked which were best? I would say try & see. Which ever you prefer although I have stuck with active ones. Apparently Meridian are very good but I have no experience (bar a very good CD player). Not much help but an honest opinion.
  14. All great in my experience. I love ATC & you can pick up some 10As on EBay pretty cheaply. They aren't too clinical as some people say - I owned a pair for 18 months & still own some 20As. The Genelecs are wonderful - they were my PC speakers for 2 years. The NHTs prior to this. The Genelecs IMHO were more detailed but ruthless with poorly mastered recordings. NHT were probably my favourites but less trendy! If you get the chance, try all 3 side by side.
  15. Can anyone help? I've created a separate login on my Mac in order to use this for streaming via my Int202 to my DAC. Following advice, my aim is to have as little running as possible, turn spotlight off etc - all the things to try & maximise SQ. Is there a way of making the iTunes an exact copy & to keep updated on both this login & my normal work login? I'm currently ripping my entire CD collection so I can work & rip at the same time but when I log in to my HiFi login, I want to have the same library available. I assume this is a reasonable idea? My first topic on this site so please be gentle with me! Happy New Year everyone. Tony
