I was having one of those evenings when you sit back relax and put on some amazing music to take you into that place of karmic zen.
I was reliving the wonders of Portishead - Dummy (a truly amazing album). I love this album and Roads is by far one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. My issue with it though are all the pops and crackles. But it's not their existence that bother me they give the song soul and feel. My concern is how it's affecting my speakers.
I don't like funny noises, clicks, buzzes coming from my speakers they make me think my tweeters are yet again blown (I have gone through a fair few on lesser non audiophile systems)
Another album I am always cautious of turning up the volume on is Kanye West - 808's and Heartbreaks due to the noises that make you think your speakers are about to blow.
I'm running my music as either FLAC (24/******) or Apple Lossless (16/44100) through Linn Majik DS which is hooked up to a Roksan Kandy k2 -> Bowers and Wilkins CM5's which are perfectly matched power wise. I rarely take it above 50% volume as I don't want to damage a pair of £800 speakers.
Can sounds like these create excess stress and potentially damage the speakers or am I just being overly cautious and paranoid at every abnormal sound I hear?
I greatly appreciate anyones 2pence/cents on this.
