  1. Thank you Miska and randytsuch for the guidance and suggestions! @Miska FYI NAA works on RPi4 - USB Audio In to Oppo 105 universal player. BTW - Is it possible to run the HQPlayer Client on a second Raspberry Pi?
  2. Thank you for the new Raspberry Pi images. I have the NAA installed on my RPi4 and am trying out HQPlayer in my main audio system. Is there any documentation for the NAA beyond what is in the manual for HQPlayer? How do you control the NAA for simple functions like shutting it off? It asks for login - I could not find user/password. I did a shutdown from root but that requires having the NAA connected to a keyboard and screen. Is there any way to do this headless? Also, I have installed on my RPi4 a nifty "Remote Pi" board - on/off switch and remote interface - connects to the GPIO by MSLdigital. Is there a way I can modify the NAA system to incorporate one of the scripts MSL provides for incorporating their hardware? https://www.msldigital.com/collections/all-products/products/remotepi-board-for-pi-4-b https://www.msldigital.com/pages/support-for-remotepi-board-plus-2015 (scroll down for examples of scripts) I am not at all proficient in linux but can follow instructions. thanks again!
  3. Hi, Will there be a HQPlayer NAA image for Raspberry Pi 4? thanks, Stephanie
  4. What is the best way to tag compilation cds so that they don't get listed as a separate album? I make the title of each song contain the artist -- Artist: Various Title: John Coltrane, My Favorite Things Album Artist: Various While this allows for all the songs in a compilation to appear in the same album, you loose the ability to search for the track if the artist tag was filled in correctly. I am about to re-do my friends music library for his Sony HAP Z1-ES - and I wanted to know if anyone has found a solution to this since I it was last discussed a few years ago. Thank you! Stephanie Gaynor
  5. Export list of Favorites -- Random Ordered Play I am trying to create a list of Favorites for my friend's family. He passed away and had 600 favorites selected on his Sony HAP Z1ES. I am using an old Macbook Pro laptop with Snow Leopard OS. On the internal drive there are 2 greyed out folders, might the list be located there? When I had the unit setup at my house I was able to find different folders like this easily on my network, but I use a Windows system at home. Also, is there a way to play favorites in a random order? Is there a way to play a playlist in random order? I've not been able to find that function on the Sony App. Thank you.
  6. Greg, thank you for input on my friend's HAP Z1! After letting it rest for half a day, after I had contacted Sony, I thought hell lets try one more time and see what happens. After another dismal start, I was able to get the Sony HAP Z1ES to shut down and then start up normally. I was overjoyed to hear the power supply go click. I am not sure exactly what I did -- I may have held the power button while removing the IEC cord, I know I tried so many things including using different ends of the power cord to power on and off the unit. It seems to be working perfectly now. We'll have to see if it stays this way. I am not sure exactly what the cause was to send it to this never never land protection mode. Let's hope we don't go back there:)
  7. Any tricks to a hard reset? My friend's unit is stuck on the intro screen and wont power down or up. When it is plugged in the green light is always flashing. I have disconnected everything from the unit and left it unplugged for a few hours but when I plug it back it I get the same thing -- the splash screen flashes and then it finally gets stuck on the intro screen "HDD Audio Player/powered by Gracenote. " Has any one else seen this problem? Thanks, Stephanie
  8. I use MP3tag on PC and Mac. It may not be in the app store but it works fine.
  9. hi, I wanted to report that I was able to load up music onto an external hard drive the sony can read using my WD Mycloud EX2. I formated my Seagate USB desktop expansion drive 4TB on the Sony HAP Z1ES. Took that drive and attached it to the usb port on the WD MyCloud EX2 NAS. Many NAS drives with USB input can read and write Linux formatted hds. Filled it with my music. Unmounted it from NAS. Attached it to the Sony and after the Sony scans the drive and builds up its database for the 3.5TB of music -- this takes half a day. And all is good. I find this method more reliable and faster. Feeding a large music library into the Sony directly over the network takes 10 to 100 times longer. I have worked with 2 different Sony HAP Z1ES units now -- invariably at a certain point the Sony hangs and the transfer stalls. At least now I can avoid that painfully slow process. Also, I tried the balanced outs but found into a vintage single ended system that there was low hum typical of going from balanced to single ended.
  10. Does anyone here know if the Sony HAP Z1ES can output to balanced and unbalanced outputs simultaneously? I was wondering if they both could be used to facilitate a multi-room output using AudioEngine W3 wireless audio adapters/receivers direct out of the Sony vs. via tape loop on a tube vintage receiver. I wanted to know if both outputs are available simultaneously and if it is safe to use them this way. I don't own the unit but help a friend maintain his music server and thought I'd check in here first. My friend has ALS and has limited mobility and use of his hands. If we could utilize 2 outputs on the Sony HAP Z1 simultaneously, -- one to his receiver and one to the AudioEngine W3 wireless audio adapter - then this could make it easier for him to use because it would eliminate the step of operating a source tape/monitor switch on his vintage tube receiver. I wanted to ask here since I am only over at his place once a week and wanted to see if others have tried to use both outputs simultaneously and if this is safe to do. Any help on this specific point will be appreciated.
  11. Thank you bwillcox and danghony for providing information about your experiences transferring files from a NAS to the HAP Z1. I'd love to hear from other users. 1. What specific external hard drive attached to the HAP Z1 are you using? 2. Have you transferred files from Network attached storage? How did that work out for you? Thank you! Stephanie
  12. pal -- you might do better to ask this question in the general forum where more folks may have experience with the speakers you list. Generally I advise to listen to the speakers in your room with your system -- and see what you prefer. Most local and many online dealers offer ways to do this. I'll be curious to hear about what you decide. best, Stephanie
  13. Another question. Is anyone copying files stored on a NAS drive to the Sony. If so, what equipment. What is the process for doing it that way. I assume if the network folders can be mounted and accessed you can drag and drop as if they were stored locally on the computer. thank you. Stephanie
  14. Hi, I just wanted to report on my latest findings: 1. The Vantec NexStar CX USB 2.0 enclosure with the HGST Deskstar 4TB HD does not work well with the Sony HAP Z1. The Sony reformats the 4TB NTFS HD to 1.6TB. Some hardware conflict might also be why the Sony HAP Z1 could not keep its connection to this external drive after standby or power off. I will not have the opportunity to hook up another 4TB drive for a couple weeks, but I will report back when I do. The hardware conflict could have something to do with the fact that this enclosure is an older model -- maybe 8 yrs old? when 4tb drives were not common or that the Deskstar is a Nas type drive and is defaulting somehow into a RAID configuration? As a quick test, I attached a 5TB Seagate Expansion drive to the Sony and it formatted correctly -- about 4.5 TB. This is an odd glitch. I'd love to hear what external hard drive/enclosures -- exact brand/models folks are using successfully and if anyone has seen this odd behavior of formatting the hd down to about half the hd size. Thanks! Stephanie
  15. As I mentioned in my posts above, you can contact Sony ES support and get help. Unfortunately the general Sony support/community forum agents don't know the HAP Z1, give out bad info instead of referring to to the ES support team. Truly Awful! I have wondered if some inside of Sony just want to kill this product. Anyways, here is the info for Sony HAP Z1ES support: https://dealersource.sel.sony.com/dsweb/p/builtin/contact_support.html [877-619-7669] [email protected]
