  1. That’s a good point and I was wrong thinking it was anything to do with the LAN. But my understanding is that Qobuz use Amazon hosting for their service and any blacklisting would be done by Amazon and probably be outside Qobuz’s control. Blacklisting dynamic addresses sounds a strange thing to do anyway as it could gradually poison a whole block of addresses used by an ISP.
  2. Your dynamic IP address on your LAN returned by DHCP certainly wouldn’t cause your problem. It sounds more likely that your ISP is doing something dodgy. For instance, sometimes when you are using WiFi in a hotel the way it connects to the internet involves completely hijacking your internet connection in a very insecure and unsafe way, amounting to what is called a ‘man in the middle attack’. I don’t think it is reasonable to expect Qobuz support to debug that kind of issue.
  3. I use both Vicoustic and GIK products and you can’t go wrong with either as I think acoustic treatment is the best ‘bang for your buck’ available in HiFi. I would love to buy Artnovion products as I love the finish and aesthetics, but they are quite hard to find in both the UK and the part of Spain where I live and they are also a bit more expensive than GIK and Vicoustic. But I would say that with the right choices 50% of the value of acoustic treatment can be enhancing the appearance of a room and that is on top of just the pure sound quality improvement already being the best ‘bang for your buck’ in audio. I am surprised how often I see treated rooms with amazingly ugly panels such as red ones combined with awful cream and randomly placed black acoustic foam or whatever.
  4. Although my bass traps work well at flattening the peaks of the room modes in the REW waterfall graph, they haven’t had much effect on the frequency response at the bass frequencies. Maybe that explains the original comment about bass traps not working below 100 Hz, if it was referring to having an effect on flattening the frequency response.
  5. I am puzzled about the statement that ‘passive acoustic treatment below 100 Hz is all but useless in a domestic environment’. That’s not my experience in the rooms I’ve treated. I’ve used a large number of GIK Tri-Traps with range limiters in a large room, and they certainly have an effect at 50 Hz and below that is visible on the REW waterfall graphs for the room, and very audible. For treatment at even lower frequencies I’ve used GIK Scopus tuned membrane bass traps and the T40 does indeed work well at 40 Hz and below. You do need large numbers of bass traps for a room of any size, but given that limitation they do work as advertised.
  6. With a funnel through the hole in the top as far as I can remember.
  7. I’ve got a pair of the original LS50Ws in a large room with KEF subs. I found the room needed a lot of acoustic treatment before the KEFs sounded their best, and it is possible the KEF system is more room fussy than the Harbeth one. A small sub from KEF or REL might make the sound sweeter too. What stands are you using? IsoAcoustics make some good ones for desktop use, and I use KEF stands filled up two thirds full with Atabites with my LS50Ws. I use Duelund DCA20GA cable to connect my subs incidentally.
  8. The room looks great. I would add more bass traps in the extra space if you can find some visually attractive ones, as I personally don’t think DSP is a substitute for reducing the room modes in the first place.
  9. Thanks for the helpful replies to my question. However, as soon as I posted my question it stopped happening and so I can’t debug it. My internet connection has been really slow recently and I wonder if it was timing out when trying to login to Audiophile Style.
  10. Recently I keep having to login to Audiophile Style every time I try to access the site which makes it unusable. The problem isn’t happening with other sites and so it doesn’t seem to be an issue specific to the Chrome browser on an iPad that I use.
  11. No not yet. They’re due to arrive this coming week - I’m looking forward to listening to them.
  12. I’ve recently got an iFi Go Link, and I also use an original Shanling M0. But I will be interested in trying them with my iFi Micro Black Label/APPJ PA1502A tube headphone amp to see how they scale when driven better.
  13. Thanks for the tip! I’ve ordered a pair of KZ PR1 from AliExpress for the princely sum of 53 euros including shipping - I can’t wait to hear what these planar magnetic IEMs sound like.
  14. I have the original CDs that I have ripped, and I always keep the originals that I have bought and downloaded from sites like Qobuz. I also keep my collection in both AIFF and Apple lossless formats, and have multiple backups in multiple sites. I agree the ZFS might be better than ext4 or the Apple file system, but in the context of audio systems with more modest sizes like mine (c. 3300 albums) RAID is just a solution looking for a problem. Modern hard disks have built in error correction and detection at the hardware level, and I am not too worried by bit rot.
  15. I don’t see any need for mirroring or RAID unless the music collection is larger than a single USB disk, ie at least 6 tb or so. I’m sure plenty of people on this site might have music collections that are larger than that, but I would be surprised if it was typical for an average audiophile. I have plenty of backups that I make by periodically running rsync or rdiff_backup onto other USB disks.
