  1. Well, I guess we just have to wait and see if they come out with a new firmware. One of the things they asked me to try was setting Output=BOTH (i.e. headphones and main). When this is set to both and Bypass=On and Vol-control=analogue, the trim function actually works and the volume is reduced. But this doesn't seem right, because doesn't this mean that signal is going through the volume circuit, so Bypass really isn't working? I also don't like sending a signal to the headphone output when I don't need it. I agree that the best solution would be lowering the analogue output level without having to use the volume circuit, if that's possible.
  2. I also have this problem and have contacted Mytek about it. I use my amplifier (Ayre AX-7e) for volume control, so I always set the bypass mode on the Brooklyn DAC+ to ON. However, the output is then too loud over XLR outputs. The new trim function doesn't work in Bypass mode because, according to Mytek, "there is only 1 circuit for changing the volume for analog section." I haven't tried the jumpers, because according to Mytek "with firmware v.1.21 jumpers are unwanted." @aslg: did you try going back to the jumpers to lower the output volume?
  3. When I try to play back the new Tidal Masters using the Tidal Mac App on a MacMini connected by USB to Ayre QB-9, the 96 kHz shows up in the display of the Ayre, but the music playback is highly sped up, like listening to the chipmunks. Anyone else getting this problem? Tidal app is set to output audio to Ayre QB-9 and is set to exclusive mode. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Correction: apparently, it has nothing to do with the Masters tracks, the normal HiFi tracks at 44.1kHz also play incorrectly using the Tidal Mac app, but get this, they play too slowly, like a 78rpm record being played at 33rpm. I normally use Roon for playback. I'm trying Tidal app for the first time, because I want to try out the Masters tracks.
  4. Hi Everyone, I have the following set up: Mac Mini > Mapleshade USB Cable > Uptone USB Regen > Ayre QB-9 (DSD) I would like to clean up the power going from the Mac Mini into the USB Regen, so I considered buying the Uptone Audio Mac mini DC-Conversion / Linear Fan Controller Kit (MMK). But I also noticed there are products out there that disconnect the power from the USB-port going into the USB cable, for example: https://www.sbooster.com/sbooster-tweaks/sbooster-vbus-isolator So my question is: if I use the sbooster-vbus-isolator (which costs EUR 20) to diconnect the power going from the Mac Mini to the USB Regen, why would I need to buy the Uptone Audio Mac mini DC-Conversion (which costs USD 135) to clean up the power of the Mac Mini? Or am I missing something? Thanks in advance, Eduard
  5. Still no reply from Ayre to an email sent Jan. 20. Humm, kind of disappointing, especially since I love their products so much. Guess I'll try calling them or contacting the German dealer again.
  6. That's also my understanding. However, the guy from the German dealer said that Ayre can't deliver enough upgrade kits to meet the demand, i.e. the bottleneck is at Ayre, not at the German dealer. Humm, not sure what to believe.
  7. Thanks for the feedback! I contacted Ayre directly using the contact form on their website. I'll post the results.
  8. Hi Everyone, I'm still waiting for an upgrade of my old QB-9 to the DSD 24/192 version of the QB-9. Whenever I call the authorised dealer in Germany, Sun Audio, I get "call back in a couple months", which has been going on for two years now. I guess Ayre is busy making Pono components. It's frustrating, to the point where I'm considering other brands, since there are so many interesting alternatives coming out, but I don't want to give up that Ayre sound. Thanks for any feedback! Edward
  9. Hey everyone, I have my Wavelength Proton hooked up directly to my power amp (Cyrus X Power), which, being a power amp and all, doesn't have a volume control. I'd like to limit the maximum volume on my Mini (running latest Snow Leopard), in order to prevent any accidental blowing of my speakers. I found this terminal script on a German website: defaults write com.apple.soundpref VolumeLimit -float [Wert = 0.0 - 1.0] which supposedly limits the volume but I can't seem to get it to work. "Wert" means "value" in English so I'm assuming that the proper syntax if I wanted to limit the volume to 0.70 would be: defaults write com.apple.soundpref VolumeLimit -float [0.70] But when I type this in and hit enter in Terminal, I get no confirmation that the value has been changed and I'm able to go into Audio Midi Setup and increase the volume above 0.70 using the keyboard or mouse. Is my syntax wrong or do I have to restart? Or does anyone have some other ideas about limiting the volume? BTW, iTunes is of course set to 100% volume and I'm using the Proton's internal analog volume control which is set via the operating system (OSX) volume control, which is why I'm trying to limit this. Finally, just want to add that the Proton is the sh*!?t when it comes to DACs. I've tried Cyrus, Benchmark, and Grace and the Proton beats them all, IMHO. Thanks in advance. Edward
  10. Hi All, I'm considering the HK 990 and was wondering if anyone from the CA community had any experience with this Amplifier/DAC combination. There are a few reviews on the web but not much related to it's D/A capabilities or integration with a music server. The model appears on HK's UK and German websites, but not on the US website, so maybe it's not available there. I'd be using it in combination with a PC running iTunes, AIFF encoded files sendint them to the HK 990 via Airport Express using the mini-TOSlink out. I'm looking for feedback on it's SQ, and whether it can be bi-amped (the back panel has A+B speaker connections). Also, there seems to be two versions of the HK 990 on the market: one with a USB input and one without a USB input, but with subwoofer trigger connectors instead. The official UK and German websites only have the version without the USB input, but on www.harmannordic.com, there is a version with USB. Also, if you "google image" HK 990, there are back panel pictures showing a USB input. Obviously, as an ardent CA, I'm looking to get the version with the USB input and would also be interested in any feedback on how the HK 990 handles USB signals in terms of jitter and SQ. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks! Rob
