  1. As someone smarter than me said, Let your ears be the judge!
  2. I find A K's voice a bit grating when she goes loud. I like Irish singer Mary Black as a reference.
  3. I stream from my PC via JRiver 16 to a PS Audio DAC in my main (fairly hi end) system. I only use a fairly cheap generic sort of 1Tb hard drive in my PC for my music and wonder if a better hard drive would improve the sound? JRiver is set up as per instructions for Win 7 (no conversion & uncompressed stream). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am considering the purchase of a new PC and having the best sound is a priority for me. I'm not too computer saave but can follow directions. What should I insist on in a new PC? Thanks in advance.
  4. For about a week now I have been using the Bridge in my PWD to play music from my PC through my main system. To start with I ripped about 200 cds to flac and stored them on a 1tb hard drive on my PC.I used dBpoweramp in secure mode to rip. I am using JRiver Media Center 15.0.136 as my library and DLNA server. I have it set up to stream uncompressed. While it sounds good I dont think it is quite as good as the Perfect Wave Transport. It has great detail but seems to lack some midrange warmth and bass extention. It is only a slight difference but you can notice it. Also I cant seem to be able to apply any EQ or effects in the DSP settings of the Audio Options menu in the JRMC.This is something I would like to do to some of my less than high-end files. Through my PC its not a problem but through the PWD it wont work. As optimum sound quality is my goal I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me. Thanks
  5. I want to put a new 1tb HD in my PC (Win7) just for audio files (maybe pics and videos too). I have no experience. I will probably go with the CASH recommendation unless someone has a better idea. I dont know about SAS or SATA. I would like to get ideas of which would be best. I will be streaming audio from a J River Media Center 15 to a PS Audio PWD and would like to get it right...Thanks
  6. With highest sound quality the most important thing what do people think would be best?
  7. Since updating from 14 to 15 I can no longer use ASIO or WASAPI to play m4a files that I had downloaded previously from iTunes(all other files are good). Instead I have to use either Direct Sound or Kernel Streaming.Do you think this is OK? I have Windows 7 with an Asus Essence ST sound card set to S/PDIF pass-through to a Peachtree Audio Nova. Thanks
  8. I live in Australia and have had no probs downloading with broadband ADSL.I only realised it was a US only site after my first download! I thought it might have been because I paid with PayPal. We don't have very fast broadband here and although it can take a while I have had very few problems with them. The few times I made enquiries they helped me out ok. In the beginning I could not get a flac file to work and they let me do the aiff download at no extra charge. Cant complain at all.
  9. Thanks for the tip. I ordered the Belden 1694A
  10. Just put an ASUS Xonar Essence STi sound card in my PC. I am running it to my Peachtree Audio Nova via coaxial cable on RCA.It sounds a bit better than the USB link. In the Nova manual it says you must use a wide bandwith 75ohm cable to get the best sound. Can anyone advise me of a good value cable that might improve the sound?
  11. I have been trying to follow Chris' setup advice for Windows 7 and J River Media Center. I can do everything except set the default format to 24 bit and 48000 Hz in the advanced tab of the speakers properties. I do not have a listing for 24 bit/4800Hz. Mine only goes up to 16/48kHz. Any advice? I am running a Peachtree Nova through USB.
  12. " I was one of the people whose credit card was hacked to a "tune" of $2000 through HD Tracks last year." I like to use PayPal. That way only PP has your cc details.
  13. Sorry to bother but I have never used a digital cable before. What kind of cable wouild i need from the Asus Xonar to the Nova? Thanks
  14. Just reread the section on this card. I must have missed it! Might give it a go! Will it work on Windows 7?
  15. Hi Chris, I set up for bit perfect playback pretty much the way you recommended and must say it was invaluable info. Like I said it sounds just great but I will be forever wondering if I could make it even better. David Richardson(?) from Signal Path told me I might like to try another sound card some day. One that sends the signal via digital link to the Nova. I dont have much of a clue being new to all this. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Maybe it would be a waste of money. I dont know. I read all your stuff about the Nova plus Windows 7 and JRMC configuration. Thanks alot for the leg up!
