  1. Good article and review. I'm still using a Slimdevices Transporter. The Transporter was a very complete player including very exhaustive inputs-outputs including a BNC connector for Word Clock input and output. I connected an Avid-Sync WC Out from this generator to the WC In on the Transporter. As expected the sound quality improve a lot, not on the frequency side but on the clarity of music. Precise attack, excellent control on decay, sustain, and good decay are at the rendez-vous with any type of music content. It always refreshing to observe that digital reproduction is very influenced (dependable) on the quality of clocking. The rest of the IO is very useful to connect the Toslink from my TV and the AES out goes to my NADAC. The XLR Out goes to my active speaker set ( Blue Sky 6,2) and the RCA goes to a headphone amplifier.
  2. The recommendation for the switch is mostly for the PRO market and when you use more than one Anubis. I used the ANUBIS with a consumer LYNKSYS router running with ROON server (on Linux). The configuration (routing) must be done via Aneman.
  3. The Anubis support AoIP via network cable, router ans switch. There is no wake-on-lan, but the Anubis could be powered by POE (Power over Internet), there is maybe a possibilty there.
  4. My music collection is located on a Vortexbox server (running on Linux). Emotion could play files locally or remotely.
  5. Yes, I'm a beta tester. I was busy with other stuff but I'm back on testing. Emotion is connected to my Vortexbox server.
  6. Brandenburg Concertos free downloads - Maybe not the best but totally free !
  7. As mention before Merging Technologies concentrate mainly their efforts on the professional market. The development of Horus and the Ovation software is the focus at the moment. The Emotion project is still going on, fixes are addressed.
  8. Available free at this address : The Open Goldberg Variations, by Kimiko Ishizaka | Open Goldberg Variations Kimiko Ishizaka Piano Anne-Marie Sylvestre : Recording and Producer
  9. Try the Focal Solo Be6 active monitor, I never heard so much sound quality at low level, I prefered them to the ADAM.
  10. Forget to mention OPPO BP-93
  11. Vortexbox could connect with several devices and software, so far I used it with the following: -Squeezebox (including the first model) -Insignia Infocast 3.5 -Android (with HTC Sensation phone) -Cambridge NP30 -Simaudio MiND -JRiver -Moose -Foobar -Windows Media Player -Emotion (Beta software)
  12. Hi, Avid system provide support for importing BWF (Broadcast Wave File). A BWF is similar to a wave file but include metadata as timecode, reel number, track number. Most of the professional recorder and digital audio workstation could manage BWF at import and export. In your case you need an utility that could add bwf metadata on your existing file. Take a look here: http://www.quesosoft.com/index.html or re-import and export your file using a DAW.
  13. I'm still using my Rio Karma everyday, I changed the internal 20g hard drive for a 32G Compact Flash. So far I didn't find anything that sound as good of my Rio Karma. The Rio Karma support gapless playback right from the start...it takes 5th generation of Ipod to finally support gapless playback (the workaround was to install Rockbox) I like the fact that the Rio could be repaired and improved. I didn't have so much luck to repair old Ipod... I agree with you that the mp3 revolution was already engaged but Apple marketing was smart and rich enough to take advantage of it.
  14. Answering to your question, Emotion Beta 3 has been delivered three weeks ago. Beta 3 provided fixes for better and faster indexing using NAS, better database management. So far the software is stable and sound very good... The main business for Merging is developing Digital Audio Workstation and post-production tools, I guess we need to be patient, but in the mean time problems are fixed and features are added.
  15. Check this new product from Atoll (from France) Here's a review from Haute-Fidelité a french hi-fi magazine: http://www.fichier-pdf.fr/2012/01/30/atoll-dac-200-haute-fidelite-174-fevrier-2012/atoll-dac-200-haute-fidelite-174-fevrier-2012.pdf I tried the DAC 200 some weeks ago, here's my observations: -Support for seven inputs (including AES) -USB support up to 192Khz -USB dongle included (Atoll offer a WiFi card solution) -Volume control -Remote Control -Balanced Output -Minimalist but serious design This DAC provide lots of details and precision, with cymbal decays, long reverb tails and precise stereo imaging. The best sound occur when using the Emotion Beta-Mykerinos as source. (with AES)
